Raila Odinga Mausoleum coming to life in Bondo – official handover and unveil set for October 7
The Raila Odinga mausoleum in Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, Bondo, is just about to finish up and on October 7 the official hand over and unveiling will take place with the ceremony bringing together President William Ruto, some high profile Kenyan dignitaries and a few curious guests from elsewhere.
Raila’s widow Ida Odinga told us it’ll be a big event, with a fair few people turning out to pay their respects.
The October 7 celebration, however, is going to be a bit of a private affair, with just a select few from the public allowed to drive on by and have a look around. Theyll be able to get inside to visit the mausoleum as of October 8 though.
Raila Odinga Mausoleum to Be Unveiled on October 7
Ida said the construction work is all but over now and the October 7 handover marks a major point in setting up the permanent home for Raila.
“Pretty much done with the build now, all that’s left is to mark another big milestone here on the 7th of October,” Ida said about the upcoming occasion
The handover and unveil will be down in the Kang’o Ka Jaramogi grounds in Bondo
Ida said she’s putting some thought into sorting out some nice digs for the invited guests coming to the ceremony
Otiende Amollo Explains October 7 Ceremony Arrangements
Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo filled us in on the details and said that the October 7 unveil is strictly a ticket-only affair due to space restrictions.
Apparently its just not possible to fit too many people in there, and not really the kind of event you’d want to turn up to without a formal invite.
He’s telling everyone not to come to the site on the 7th, instead there are some alternative venues set up where people will be able to catch the action on a screen, so to speak
Where Will the Public Watch Raila Mausoleum Unveiling?
Members of the public will be able to catch a glimpse of what’s going on from special venues in the area.
Otiende said they’re setting up a big screen at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science & Technology and a few other spots, so people can come out and have a look at the ceremony without causing a bottleneck in front of the mausoleum
Public Allowed to Visit Raila Mausoleum From October 8
Its only on Oct 7th that the unveiling ceremony is gonna be for invited guests, come the next day, the Raila Odinga mausoleum is open to public.
Otiende is urging people to keep in mind the difference between the big unveil on the 7th and what happens the day after.
The Raila mausoleum is going to be a pretty big deal once its up and running – a place where people will go to pay their respects to the old PM.
Raila’s October 15 Public Commemoration in Bondo
The big unveil and the mausoleum opening is all part of a run of events building up to the main public tribute to Raila on Oct 15th in Bondo.
The event is going to be one to remember bringing together Raila’s family and friends, his politics allies and supporters, as well as anyone else who wants to join in.
Otiende says the committee’s been through the mausoleum and talked through plans for the run up to the bigger event – and its been a pretty collaborative effort with Government and national committee members inspecting the site along with the Deputy Chief of Staff Eliud Owalo and Professor Adams Oloo who’s chair of the committee.
Ida Odinga Calls on Kenyans to Light Candles for Raila
In the meantime, Ida is asking Kenyans all over the country to light up candles at 6pm to start off the “Mwezi wa Baba” month – a whole month dedicated to the former Prime Minister.
Shes calling on people all over the country to do this, and in some areas ODM has got activities planned. Its a way to remember Raila by lighting a candle and pay a tribute to him as Kenya starts this month to mark his death.
Raila Mausoleum Expected to Become Key Memorial Site
The mausoleum at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi is shaping up to be a pretty important place for people to go to think about Raila and all the good work he did for Kenya – be it in politics or just being a really important figure in the country.
The whole programme of events that started with the 7th handover, then the 8th public visit and 15th commemoration is a ongoing effort by Raila’s family, his political buddies and everyone else to keep his memory alive.
