Maraga Makes Bold Promise to Kenyans Abroad Ahead of 2027 Election

Presidential hopeful David Maraga is telling Kenyans living abroad that if elected president in 2027 he’s going to make integrity and accountability of public money his top priority.

Out on the stump in the US on Sunday, the United Green Movement’s (UGM) presidential candidate told his supporters that his administration would crack down hard on corruption and go after leaders who’ve been accused of siphoning off cash meant for the public.

“I’m not going to steal from my own family or my colleagues so they can steal from you,” Maraga said in a pretty blunt message.

Maraga is currently over in the US for a three week trip under the banner of his Ukatiba caravan. He’s using the trip to meet Kenyans living abroad and try and sell them on his vision for the country ahead of the 2027 election.

Maraga Vows to Keep an Eye on Kenyans Money

One of the main points Maraga made was that Kenya has been held back by corruption and dodgy governance and that he thinks that’s something he can change. He outlined that public cash is for the people, not for lining the pockets of politicians.

“Kenya put that money in for you to look after it, not for you to put it in your pocket,” he told his audience.

Maraga also promised to take action against anyone accused of stealing Kenyans cash, and said that accountability is a key plank of his presidential bid.

His whole campaign is built around the idea that good governance is key – and his slogan “Reset, Restore, Rebuild.” sums that up pretty well.

Maraga Points to Singapore as the Good Governance Role Model

While talking to Kenyans in the US Maraga pointed to Singapore as a place that’s shown how strong, accountable leadership can transform a country.

“We are talking about Singapore in Kenya, and really Lee Kuan Yew set them on the path to being the success story they are today,” he said.

Maraga is saying that if we can do the same here in Kenya and hold our leaders accountable for how they use public cash then the country’s development prospects will be transformed.

For Maraga governance and checks on power are pretty central themes and they’re things he’s going to be keeping on about as he bids for the presidency in 2027.

Maraga’s Ukabila Caravan Hits the Road in the US

Maraga’s US travel plans are part of a Ukatiba Caravan, a pretty major campaign tour that’s gonna last three whole weeks targeting all the Kenyans living all over the states every single one of them.

This has given the former Chief Justice a great chance to meet his diaspora supporters hear what they’re going through and tell them where he stands on key issues ahead of the 2027 General Election.

He’s also framed this campaign as a chance to consult on what the people outside of Kenya want for the future of their country – what direction should Kenya take from here.

The tour has stopped off in some big US cities including Washington DC, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Minnesota, Georgia, Houston and Dallas. And its due to finish up on October 5.

Vanguard Africa Offers a Hand to Maraga’s Campaign For Free

Maraga’s US tour just happened to coincide with a deal between Friends of Maraga and Vanguard Africa an advisory firm out of Washington DC.

According to documents that were filed under the United States Foreign Agents Registration Act Friends of Maraga and Vanguard Africa teamed up on September 2 last year.

Under this agreement, Vanguard Africa is basically giving them advice, helping out with international advocacy talking up Maraga’s profile, his integrity, his commitment to free and fair elections in Kenya. It’s all happening for free.

This deal is set to run out on November 30, at which point they’ll likely review what’s working and what they need to change.

Maraga Talks About Integrity Like Its Gonna Be His Main Thing

Maraga’s latest words are all part of a bigger message about how Kenya should be run something that’s really key to his whole campaign.

His promise to not steal from Kenyans is just about him saying that integrity is at the heart of how he sees the country being run being honest, and not fiddling with the public purse.

And its not just about integrity his plans for Kenya also involve getting the constitution right and making sure the institutions are all working properly.

With the 2027 General Election on the horizon, Maraga’s outreach to the Kenyans living abroad is giving him a way to build up his support in those communities. While all the while selling his reset restore rebuild vision for the country.
