Gachagua’s Bold Message to Sifuna After Equitable Party Launch

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has thrown his weight behind Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna in the run-up to the launch of The Equitable Party which he says is a “really big deal” and urged him to shift into high gear to build a solid political foundation ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Gachagua who just happens to be the leader of the DCP called Sifuna “my cousin” when talking about the new party & described the launch as a major step in the Senator’s journey to the national stage.

On X on Sunday, Gachagua put out a message telling Sifuna’s fans to sign up for the party and get to work recruiting some strong candidates to take on President William Ruto’s allies in the next election.

Gachagua Backs Sifuna After Equitable Party Launch

Gachagua offered his congratulations to Sifuna after the Senator was named as the leader and presidential candidate for The Equitable Party.

The former Deputy President told Sifuna & his supporters they need to concentrate on building a solid base from the ground up, by spotting & developing candidates for all sorts of elected positions & getting people on board.

“Get a move on and start telling people about your new party, then go out & find some proper leaders to back in your strongholds to kick out Ruto’s yes-men and stooges” was his message to Sifuna.

This public show of support for Sifuna’s presidential ambitions, as parties start jostling for position ahead of the 2027 elections.

Gachagua Calls for Parliamentary Majority

Gachuga reminded Sifuna that winning the presidency alone won’t be enought to get the oppositions agenda through he told him , they need to win a Majority in both the national Assembly & the senate.

Gachagua also accused the Ruto administration of driving the country straight into the ground & claimed they will be left with no-escape- route as a result – He however didnt give any evidence of this in his message

“Theres going to be no way out for this lot its going to be WANTAM and round one up” said Gachagua, & in the process invoked the oppositions catchy WANTAM slogan which has President Ruto only serving one term in office as its rallying cry.

Sifuna Named Equitable Party Presidential Candidate

Gachagua dropped in with a message right after Sifuna was unveiled as the Equitable Party’s man for the top job at a big event in Nairobi. Sifuna got the nod as the party’s leader too a move he’s hoping will position him well for the 2027 presidential election.

A bunch of politicians associated with the Linda Mwananchi Movement turned out to Sifuna’s launch, which is a pretty good sign of the broad network of politicians backing Sifuna’s presidential bid.

The launch event pretty much gave Sifuna a solid vehicle to drive his campaign forward & a way to start recruiting candidates ahead of the General Election.

Equitable Party Set for Rebrand

The Equitable Party – which has been around since 2022, according to the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties is looking to change its name & is expected to become the Linda Mwananchi Movement.

Sifuna says the party will start changing its name in the days to come, but if the rebranding gets held up for some reason, the party will still go into the 2027 election as itself. They want to move the party towards being more formalised & be able to field candidates & run campaigns more effectively.

Gachagua Urges Sifuna Supporters to Build Party

Gachagua also called on folks who’re supporting Sifuna’s presidential bid to get on board with the Equitable Party & help make it stronger.

He especially wants them to go out & find talented candidates to run for every seat from parliamentary to local government basically everywhere. This is all happening as parties & movements are just starting to lay the ground for the 2027 elections, & it’s going to get a lot more serious in the coming months.

What Gachagua’s Support Means for Sifuna’s 2027 Bid

Gachagua & Sifuna’s public statement gives a big boost to Sifuna’s chances of getting further in the 2027 elections Sifuna’s keen to show he’s more than just a Nairobi senator.

The fact that Gachagua’s talking about winning a parliamentary majority too shows just how important it is for Sifuna to get candidates all over the country or else his presidential campaign won’t go anywhere.

But we’ll just have to see how things go in 2027 how much Gachagua & Sifuna work together will depend on how the opposition parties line up. For now though, Gachagua’s made it clear: he wants Sifuna to get a move on, recruit some good candidates, & build a party that can take on those supporting Ruto.
