Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) leader Kalonzo Musyoka has condemned attacks and police violence during opposition rallies in Migori County, claiming that his vehicle was damaged as suspected goons disrupted their political engagements.
The incidents occurred on Thursday, November 5, as Kalonzo and other opposition leaders toured the county to engage residents on issues affecting Kenyans and discuss the country’s political future.
Kalonzo Musyoka Accuses Police of Using Tear Gas Against Peaceful Rallies
Speaking after the disruptions, Kalonzo criticised police officers for using tear gas against people attending what he described as peaceful political gatherings.
He accused suspected goons of initiating violence before police officers deployed tear gas, questioning the circumstances that led to the confrontation.
“The police lobbed teargas, why? A very peaceful meeting. I think the script is throw the stone and then throw teargas. Just like Garissa, a few goons whom we could count up to ten must have started throwing stones,” he stated.
The Wiper leader described the incidents as political intolerance and a violation of Kenyans’ constitutional rights, including freedom of expression, peaceful assembly and political participation.
Kalonzo Reveals Damage to His Vehicle After Migori Chaos
Kalonzo also expressed concern over the safety of political leaders, revealing that his vehicle had sustained damage during the confrontations.
He warned that attempts to intimidate opposition leaders through violence would not stop them from conducting political activities across the country.
“To put the life of a leader at risk is a serious miscalculation. My vehicle is badly hit from the rear and front. We must condemn this. If they think this will scare us, they are wrong,” he said.
He called on security agencies to investigate the incidents, identify those behind the violence and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
Wiper Party Demands Action From National Police Service
The Wiper Patriotic Front condemned the disruption of the political meetings and urged the National Police Service to uphold constitutional rights while maintaining law and order.
The party also called on security agencies to exercise restraint and guarantee the safety of Kenyans regardless of their political affiliations.
The opposition leaders maintained that political disagreements should not be used to justify violence or prevent citizens from participating in political activities.
Opposition Leaders Vow to Continue Political Rallies
Despite the disruptions in Migori, Kalonzo and the other opposition leaders vowed to proceed with their scheduled public engagements.
They maintained that the incidents would not derail their plans to meet Kenyans, listen to their concerns and discuss the country’s political direction.
The leaders reiterated their commitment to peaceful political participation and called for an environment where all political groups can freely engage the public without intimidation.
