Passenger Dies on Kenya Airways Flight From Nairobi to Lagos Shortly Before Landing
A passenger has died on a Kenya Airways flight from Nairobi to Lagos, after having a medical emergency – just before the plane touched down in Nigeria.
Kenya Airways issued a statement, on Wednesday the 7th of October, after the incident which occurred on one of its Nairobi-Lagos flights on Tuesday the 6th of October.
The passenger was found unresponsive whilst the plane was approaching Lagos.
Passenger Found Unresponsive Shortly Before Landing
According to Kenya Airways, the passenger was found unresponsive at roughly 9:20pm Nigerian time – roughly 20 minutes before the aircraft was due to land.
The flight attendants did what they could for the passenger and followed the airline’s emergency procedures as the plane continued towards Lagos.
Unfortunately the passenger had not recovered by the time they landed.
Kenya Airways Flight Lands in Lagos
The aircraft touched down at Murtalla Mohammed International Airport at 9:41pm, where medical staff were waiting to deal with the passenger.
After carrying out a further examination, the medical staff confirmed that the passenger had died.
“Once they’d had a closer look, the medical staff confirmed that the passenger had passed away,” Kenya Airways said.
Kenya Airways haven’t let slip what his identity is.
Cause of Passenger’s Death Not Disclosed
Kenya Airways also haven’t gone into the exact cause of death either.
They said the incident was a medical emergency and they are working with the deceased passenger’s family, as well as local authorities after the incident occurred.
Nothing’s been said about what exactly was going on with the medical emergency, or what the passenger’s situation was, and that’s probably just because the airline is still dealing with everything.
Kenya Airways Sends Condolences to Family
Kenya Airways are co-ordinating with the passenger’s family and with the authorities and aviation regulators. They’ve also expressed their sympathy to those affected by the incident.
“We want to pass on our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased,” the airline said.
The incident happened as the plane was coming in to land – the crew were still following emergency procedures as the plane landed in Lagos.
More might become clear over the coming days as the airline and the authorities get to the bottom of everything.
