10 Counties Face KPLC Blackouts on Thursday: Check the Full List of Areas
Fake News Alert – 10 Counties in Kenya to Face Power Blackouts on Thursday 8th October
Kenya Power has made an announcement that is bound to cause a lot of disruption they’re turning off the power in 10 counties on Thursday October 8th as the company carries out some much-needed maintenance work across the country.
The planned KPLC power cuts will hit 13 scheduled outages areas or sections in Nairobi, Nakuru, Uasin Gishu, Kisumu, Nyeri, Kiambu, Kitui, Mombasa, Taita Taveta and Kwale counties.
Most of the outages are scheduled in to be during daylight hours – between 9am and 5pm – although people in parts of Uasin Gishu will be in the dark from 10am to 5pm.
Residents and businesses in the affected areas are being warned to get their affairs in order in readiness for the scheduled shutdowns.
Nairobi Areas Set for Power Shutdown
In Nairobi County, Kenya Power has scheduled power cuts in Mwihoko, Muthaiga, Bahati and Fedha between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Mwihoko
The power cut will affect Mwihoko, KDF Barracks, St Kizito School, Kahawa Sukari B, Ndagama and Finance Estate, and anyone who just happens to live nearby.
Muthaiga
Part of Muthaiga Road, Serengeti Road, Orchard Close, Othelo Lane, Mobil Plaza and anyone who just happens to be living or doing business nearby will also find themselves in the dark.
Bahati
The affected areas include part of Bahati, Kata Mwingi, part of Heshima Road, Our Lady of Mercy, Makongeni, Kaloleni, Burma Market, Maridadi Fabricators and Rikana Supermarket.
Fedha
In Fedha, the power cut will affect part of Outside Nyayo Gate B, Rheemah Hospital, Masai Gate Area in Tassia, Tassia Complex, Kajuju Court, Harmony Court, Fedha Estate Gates 1 and 2, Church Road, Quickmart Fedha, Outering and Telaviv and anyone else who just happens to be nearby.
Nakuru Power Outage Areas
In Nakuru County, the Panda, Northlake and parts of Naivasha Town areas will be plunged into darkness from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The affected locations will include Panda Business Park, Ken Chic, Gathengera, Crushers, Interplant, Hylise, Lemayian, Vegpro, KALRO, KCC, Blue Sky, part of Marula, Loldia, Groove, part of Kasarani and Shalmar. And of course anyone living or working near these places will be affected.
Uasin Gishu Power Shutdown
Customers in Centre Kwanza, Kaplemur, Tiret, Sugoi and Kosachei in Uasin Gishu County will lose power from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
And if you live near these areas, you’ll be out of luck too.
Kisumu Power Interruption
In Kisumu County, the Marera area will experience a scheduled power cut from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The affected locations include Huma Girls, Arude School, Marera and anyone nearby.
Nyeri Areas to Lose Power
Kenya Power is carrying out some works in Gatuamba, Nyeri County, and as a result they’ve scheduled a power cut for between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Areas that will be affected include the very busy Gatumba Market, as well as Gatuamba Shopping Centre, Gatuamba Village 2, Gatuamba Secondary School and Gatuamba Dispensary, plus loads of other homes and businesses in the same area.
Kiambu Power Shutdown Schedule
There are also some areas in Kiambu County that are going to be experiencing power cuts between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Sasini and Ting’anga
Some of the places that are going to be affected include Sasini, Ting’anga Market, Ting’anga Secondary School, Ting’anga Primary School, Ngemwa and Kangongo – basically a pretty long list of towns and villages in that area.
Ngethu, Ngorongo and Igegania
As well as those places, Ngethu Lower Camp, Kariuki Muiruri, Ngorongo Dispensary, Ngorongo Market and loads of other villages and schools are going to be affected too.
Other places in the same area that will be getting power cuts include Banguro Village, Nyamagara, Mukuyuini, Kang’oo, Mukurwe, Gatei, Kanjuku, Watathii Gathaiti, Mbici Village, Ruburi, Mbogoro, Karera Village, Kagumoini, Ritho Village, Icaciri Secondary School and Karingaini Village – it’s a pretty long list.
Kawaida and Kawamwaki
We should also note that Kawaida and Kawamwaki will also be experiencing a power cut.
Areas that will be affected in those places include Gatono, Kawaida, Kimorori, Nazareth Hospital, Takataka Solutions, Kawamwaki, Utugi and CCM – and again loads of other homes and businesses around there.
Kitui Power Shutdown Areas
In Kitui County, we’ve got Kamutei, Kalivu and Kyandula that will be getting power cuts from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The shutdown covers Ilengi, Kangala, Kamutei, Kalivu, Kyandula and loads more homes and businesses in those areas.
Mombasa Power Outage on Thursday
There are going to be some power cuts in Mombasa County on Thursday while some maintenance works are being carried out.
Nyali, Mishomoroni and Kisauni are the areas that are going to be affected between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Some of the places that will be affected in those areas include part of Fidel Odinga Road, Mkomani, Chandarani, ASK Showground Tamarind, Captain Andy, Kengeleni, Samaki Poa, Art Villas, Kongowea, Engen, Orchid, Vapco and Jocham – that’s quite a list.
Other affected areas include Magongoni, Arkshandam Apartments, Mishomoroni, Kadongo, Kisauni, Mlaleo, Barsheba and Hongera – and again loads of other homes and businesses around there.
Kakuyuni and Ganda
We should also note that Kakuyuni and Ganda will be experiencing a power cut too.
Areas that will be affected include Kakuyuni, Ganda Mere, Mere SDA, Ganda Centre, Kasimbiji, Goshi, Madunguni, Kavinyalalo, Sun Park, Maisha Mapya, Majivuni and Malindi Bakery and again loads of other homes and businesses in those areas.
Taita Taveta Power Shutdown
In Taita Taveta County, there’s a power cut scheduled for Kamtonga and Chungaunga between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
The affected areas include the whole of Kamtonga, Chungaunga, Manoa, Classic Mines and loads more homes and businesses in those areas.
Kwale Power Outage Areas
And finally, customers in Shimba Hills and Shimoni in Kwale County will be getting a power cut from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The affected areas include Bomani, Milalani, Ramisi, Kanana, Shimoni, Shimbahills, Kidongo, Mwachande, Kikoneni, Mamba, Mwabandari and Msulwa – and loads more homes and businesses in those areas.
KPLC Power Shutdown Schedule for Thursday
The power cuts are all part of Kenya Power’s regular maintenance programme. If you live in one of the affected areas, it’s worth planning ahead – especially if you work from home, run a business or rely on electric equipment.
The company are also reminding people to be careful around power lines during the power cut as the electricity could be turned back on before the end of the stated time.
