Jalang’o Breaks Silence on Winnie Odinga’s Nairobi Senate Bid, Sends Clear Message
Langata MP Felix Odiwuor, aka Jalango, is welcoming Winnie Odinga to the Nairobi Senate race, saying her decision to jump in has just upped the ante ahead of the 2027 General Election, with politicians positioning themselves for the big show.
Jalango, who’s also after that Nairobi Senate seat, reckons Winnie’s entry isn’t going to stop him in his tracks. He’s adamant he’s ready to go head to head with her and the rest of the field in what’s shaping up to be a closely contested battle for the ODM ticket.
The MP says having Winnie in the mix has just raised the stakes, and he’s more than happy to keep campaigning till the very end regardless of who else jumps in.
Jalang’o Says Winnie Odinga’s Entry Makes Senate Race More Competitive
Jalango reckons Winnie’s decision to run is what’s turned this Senate contest from dull to serious business.
Langata MP says he’s not getting the jitters about going up against the current EALA MP, and his ambition is still as strong as ever.
“Winnie’s entry into the race makes it all the more exciting, competitive and serious because to be honest, some of those other early birds weren’t exactly the most serious candidates. our leader Baba (Raila) never built us up to be afraid of anything. We’re going all the way. We’re not giving up,” Jalango said.
That pretty much says it all – he’s ready to take on Winnie and the rest of the bunch as the fight for Nairobi Senate takes off.
Winnie Odinga Declares Nairobi Senate Bid
Winnie let the cat out of the bag at the 1st anniversary bash for her old man, former PM Raila Odinga, held at Migwena Grounds in Siaya County’s Bondo.
Winnie said she’s interested in pursuing the seat alongside young people as she figures out her future in politics.
“It’s no rumour that as Edwin Sifuna chases higher office and I see a gap, that’s why I’m putting my hat in for Nairobi Senator,” Winnie said when she announced her candidacy.
She’s certainly added another well-known name to the list of folks vying for a seat in the Nairobi Senate.
Jalang’o Says He Is Ready to Face Winnie Odinga
Jalang’0 came out in support of Winnie’s decision to run for senator where he said she has just as much right to do so as any other contestant.
He said he’s more than ready to go up against her and the rest of the hopefuls but he reckons ODM is more than prepared for whatever contest is thrown at us.
“If Winnie thinks running in this senate contest is a good idea, well I’m happy for her. She’s got as much right to give it a shot as the rest of us” he said
He went on to say that whoever makes it to the end of the campaign trail will be the one with the peoples support, nothing more nothing less.
For a while now its looked like the ODM nomination contest is shaping up to be a place where the party will decide who gets to run under their ticket and it looks like we are all going to be vying for the top spot
Jalang’o Promises to Support ODM Nomination Winner
Jalang’0 said he’ll do the right thing by whoever comes out on top in the nominations even if he loses out on the ticket.
He reaffirmed his position as an ODM member and part of the government saying he’ll be fighting for the party and the government whoever the winner is.
I’m an ODM member, an ODM government member, thats where I stand and if I dont make it through the nominations I’ll support whoever does” Jalang’0 said.
Now the nominations are coming up the other hopefuls are starting to line up wanting a shot at the ticket.
Other Aspirants Eyeing the Nairobi Senate Seat
Winnie and Jalang’0 arent the only ones wanting a piece of the Nairobi senate seat, there are a few other big names looking to get into the contest.
Some of the other folks looking to give it a shot are:
- Nominated Senator Crystal Asige.
- Musician KRG The Don.
- United opposition youth leader Ken Babu.
- Lawyer Cecil Miller.
- Former Makadara MP Reuben Ndolo.
Its already shaping up to be a pretty big deal and with the 2027 elections getting closer the fight for that seat is only going to get more intense.
The one who comes out on top in ODMs nomination will have to navigate a pretty crowded field – and other parties will no doubt be gunning for the senate seat itself
