Babu Owino’s Bold Message After Posters Link Gachagua to His 2027 Plans
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has shut down claims that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua wants him to give up his bid for Nairobi governor and instead go for the Senate seat in the 2027 General Election. Babu shot back on social media last Wednesday, October 21, after posters showing Gachagua’s name popped up online linking him to the alleged sneaky plan.
Babu fired back at his political opponents on social media, calling out their attempts to spread misinformation as a desperate attempt to bring him down ahead of the Nairobi governor’s election. He insisted, that he’s very much focused on winning that governor’s seat.
Babu Owino Responds to Reports About Gachagua
Babu jumped on social media to respond to the whispers that Gachagua wanted him to pack in his Nairobi governor bid and go for the Senate seat instead.
He totally rejected the claims, telling his rivals that they’d given up on competing with him politically and were now relying on fake news to get the better of him. “My UNWORTHY OPPONENTS have basically thrown the towel in and are now banking on FAKE NEWS to try and keep up” he said – the capitals on ‘FAKE NEWS’ and ‘UNWORTHY OPPONENTS’ were all his.
Babu says he is still all-in on his gubernatorial ambitions, and told his supporters “Hii Nairobi ilienda kitambo sana” which is his way of saying he’s here to stay.
It looks like his message was aimed at reassuring his supporters that he’s not going to let the rumours put him off his stride, and that he’s committed to making a run for the governor’s seat.
Babu Accuses Opponents of Spreading Fake News
Babu took another swipe at his political rivals, calling them out for trying to sway public opinion with dodgy claims. The posters you can see circulating online claimed that Gachagua was the one who wanted Babu to drop his plans for the governor’s seat and go for the Senate seat instead – but there’s no proof of any of this. Gachagua himself has yet to comment on the whole thing.
Babu Owino Declares Nairobi Governor Race a Two-Man Contest
Babu basically closed the door on the idea he’d be swayed into standing for anything else, insisting that the Nairobi governor’s contest is basically a two-horse race with him being one of the horses.
“I mean the Gubernatorial campaign is between BABU OWINO vs PAUL ONGILI,” he laughed off, reminding everyone that his full name is Paul Ongili – implying he’s got this in the bag.
Of course, that comment was also be a sly put-down to his political rivals, Babu’s painting himself as the obvious front-runner in the contest.
What the Reports Claimed About Gachagua and Babu Owino
Posters have been circulating online claiming Gachagua was asking Babu to stump for the Senate in 2027 instead of going after the Nairobi governor seat. If that was true, it would be a big change of heart from Babu who’s been saying he’s after the top spot in Nairobi all along.
Since we can’t confirm it, let’s just say we don’t know. Without a straight statement from Gachagua, the whole thing is just hearsay. But one thing is true: Babu’s not buying it. He says he’s still dead set on being Nairobi governor.
Babu Owino Maintains His 2027 Nairobi Governor Ambitions
Babu’s latest comments just underscore how much he wants to keep things simple, he wants to be Nairobi governor and he’s not backing down.
The MP has made it clear he’s not interested in running for anything else, at least not yet. The 2027 General Election is coming up and you can bet Babu’s ambitions will be making headlines for a while to come.
For now though? Babu’s message is pretty simple: he’s got his sights set on Nairobi governor and he’s going to keep going after that.
