Two Police Officers Detained Over Kyalo Mbobu Killing
Two Police Officers Suspended on Suspicion of Murdering Lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu
Two Cops suspected of being involved in the killing of lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu are being held in custody until that eases up on October 27th when they are supposed to pop up in court and make a plea.
The two specific cops who are in this mess are Julius Kipkoech Cheruiyot and Kennedy Kipkemei Borboroi, they’re facing up to murder charges over the whole incident of Mbobu getting whacked on September 9th, 2025, while was on his way down Magadi Road to Rongai.
They’re currently cooling their heels at Nairobi Remand and they’re also going to have to go through a mental assessment at Mbagathi Hospital before they show up in court next time.
Two Police Officers Held Over Kyalo Mbobu Murder
Now these two are bang in the middle of trying to figure out how lawyer Mbobu ended up deceased.
They’re supposed to drag themselves into court alongside Rose Mbithe, Chris Mulwa and Angela Mulwa, who are also going to have to answer to murder charges alongside Cheruiyot and Borboroi in relation to the poor guy’s death.
The big next court date is set for October 27th, the first time these four are going to have make a formal plea.
It all comes down to as investigators are still trying to work out what exactly happened to cause the lawyer to kick the bucket.
Police Officers Ordered to Undergo Mental Assessment
The court told Cheruiyot and Borboroi to go through a mental assessment at Mbagathi Hospital before their next court date.
Justice Diana Kavedza told them to stay put at Nairobi Remand and get carted off to the hospital for the assessment.
Its so that the court can get a better idea of their mental state before the murder trial can move any further.
Justice Kavedza Explains Why Suspects Will Remain in Custody
The defence had been pushing for the two officers to be kept at Muthangari Police Station.
But the court shot that down, saying it was a case of juggling the rights of the accused against the interests of justice.
Justice Kavedza also said a few words about getting all the arrangements sorted between the police and the defence about detention and visits.
‘So we’ve got a plea date set for 27th October, right? So what we need is for their wives to get them some toothbrushes, toothpaste some soap, that’s all we use in the cells so all that can come in. And if you want to see them, we’ll allow visits of course’ Justice Diana Kavedza said.
The judge then went on to tell the two officers to stay put at Nairobi Remand and get whisked off to Mbagathi Hospital for the assessment.
Court Rejects Request for Muthangari Police Station
The defence had asked for the two officers to be held at Muthangari Police Station but that was just knocked back.
Justice Kavedza spelled out why basically it’s to ensure that justice is done and also seen to be done.
He said “how do I explain having this Tala guy – who’s like Dr. India’s bodyguard and then move your lot to a different place. You’ll be going to Nairobi River – not in this court – and that’s pretty much my MO. I always say that justice has to balance out. And that justice can’t just be done – but also seen to be done too”
The court chose Nairobi Remand as the holding facility for the officers, pending their next court appearance.
Kyalo Mbobu and Victoria Mutiso Murder Cases Linked
With all that’s going on – there’s renewed interest now in whether the Kyalo Mbobu killng and that other case involving Dr. Victoria Mutiso are linked.
Rose Mbithe has really caught the eye in both of those investigations and even though the two cases are separate, the same suspects are popping up in both.
We’ve already got seven suspects linked to Dr. Mutiso’s case while five of them (including Mbithe) are also charged with murder in the Mbobu case
The overlap between the two cases is starting to get people talking – but those two are still taken separately and will be dealt with as such.
Mbithe Appears in Both Murder Cases
Mbithe has been in the Milimani courts already over the Victoria Mutiso murder case.
She’s going to appear at the Kibra High Court with Mulwa and Angela Mulwa on October 27 and that’s when they’ll take pleas in the Mbobu case.
It looks like October 27 is going to be a big day in the investigation into the lawyer’s death
What Happens Next in the Kyalo Mbobu Murder Case?
So next up is the mental check up for Cheruiyot and Borboroi at Mbagathi Hospital and then they’ll stay at Nairobi Remand.
Then they’ll show up at the Kibra High Court on October 27 with the rest of the accused for plea-taking.
As it goes on from there, the court will just go on considering the accusations against each of the accused one by one.
The suspects all still count as accused and they’re entitled to the usual rights – and are innocent until they’re found guilty.
