Chaos in Trans Mara as One Person Is Shot Dead in Police-Miners Clash
One person has been shot dead in a confrontation between police and residents near the Kilimapesa mining area in Lolgorian, Trans Mara South, Narok County.
The whole thing went down on Saturday, October 3rd, 2026 after police on routine patrol met some resistance from locals who weren’t too keen on them heading towards the mining area.
We still don’t know all the details on the fatal shooting the police commander didnt say who pulled the trigger.
The authorities are now expected to investigate and figure out what led to the mans death.
Residents Clash With Police Near Kilimapesa
Trans Mara South Sub-County Police Commander Enricko Telewa William says police were just out doing a routine patrol down towards Kilimapesa when they bumped into a group of residents.
The commander says these residents basically blocked the officers from getting any further up the hill.
“About five hours ago, our officers were out doing their normal patrol up towards a hill known as Kilimapesa, and they ran into a bunch of locals who were refusing to let them go any further up the mountain,” Telewa said
According to Telewa, things escalated pretty quick after the residents allegedly started chucking stones at the officers and their car.
“In the heat of the moment, they started hurling rocks at the police and their vehicle. Then they got a few people caught,” he said
Eight people got arrested in the chaos that followed.
Eight People Arrested After Stones Were Thrown
Telewa said the eight people put up a fight when they got caught but the officers managed to get them down to the police station in Lolgorian.
“When those eight people got arrested, they tried to resist but the officers managed to get them to the station,” Telewa said
The arrests came at a time when tensions are running high around the Kilimapesa mining area, after the authorities slapped some restrictions on the place to try and sort out the security situation.
Police Reinforcements Sent to Lolgorian
The police commander said things really snapped when a bunch of residents started tailing the officers on their way back to the station.
According to the officer on the scene, Telewa, these residents were demanding the release of the eight people who’d been taken in earlier.
“Hao guys just followed the crowd, came banging on the door wanting to get in but the officers were having none of it until reinforcements started rolling in from Ang’ata where we had some chaps from the ASTU and the GSU hanging about,” he said.
The reinforcements, a bunch of extra officers from the Administration Police Service’s Anti-Stock Theft Unit and the General Service Unit based out of Ang’ata, were sent to help out the officers on the ground at the station.
They proved just what the doctor ordered, keeping the peace as tensions started to rise around the facility.
Authorities Order Public to Keep Off Kilimapesa Hill
By the time Sunday, October 4, rolled around, Telewa reckoned things had got pretty calm down there.
But the authorities are still not letting anyone into the Kilimapesa area right now, until they see fit to lift the ban.
“Things have really calmed down now, the hill’s been abandoned, and I’m warning the public I mean I’m serious, members of the public, keep off that hill until we say it’s all clear,” Telewa said.
The commander is telling people not to go near the hill, or hang around if they already are there until they put some proper safety measures in place.
And by ‘proper safety measures’ he means the area is effectively under lock-down at the moment, with a bunch of extra security going in to make sure nobody tries another stunt like this one.
Kilimapesa Previously Hit by Deadly Mine Collapse
This whole thing has come on the back of an even more serious incident down at Kilimapesa a few months back.
Five artisan miners were killed in a mine collapse back in July 2026 which brought the safety of the whole operation pretty sharply back into focus.
This latest thing has only added another layer to the problems that operation’s got going on though and now we’re talking about security as well as safety, with the authorities telling everyone to keep away from the hill.
Investigations Expected Into Lolgorian Shooting
Of course, the police have confirmed that there was a fatality but they’ve still got no idea who fired the shot or what the circumstances were.
The commander didn’t shed much light on that one so that’s going to have to wait for an investigation to sort it out.
Looks like that’s what we can expect to come out of this one a proper investigation to get to the bottom of things & find out who was really at fault.
For now the authorities have just told the public to steer clear of Kilimapesa till they get this all sorted out anyway.
