No Foreigner Will Vote”: Gachagua Issues Strong Warning to Ruto and Reveals Opposition Plan Ahead of 2027
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has made it pretty clear that foreign nationals arent going to be allowed to take part in Kenya’s 2027 General Election, & he’s coming down hard on some leaders close to President William Ruto accusing them of mulling over the idea of bringing some foreign nationals into the country to try and sway the polls.
Gachagua made these comments in Boston, USA on Saturday October 3rd & during his speech, he also took the opportunity to outline the oppositions plans for 2027, saying he & his crew are working on putting in place a single presidential candidate to go up against Ruto.
No Foreigner Will Get a Ballot in Kenya
Gachagua fired back at some Ruto allies whove reportedly been suggesting that some foreign nationals, perhaps from Somalia or Uganda, be brought into the country to get a piece of the action in the 2027 election. In a rather heated diatribe at one point he even mentioned claims that deceased folk were being used to vote ” Duale is talking about getting Somalis in, Pukose is talking about getting Ugandans in”. He just flat out said it wont work that no foreigners will be voting in Kenya.
Gachagua gave his word that the opposition is going to get out there & make sure that all the eligible voters in the country have their say, but that no-one from outside of Kenya is going to get to cast a ballot in this election no Ugandans, no Somalis, no dead people.
Gachauga’s comments come at a time when all the political parties are starting to line up & get themselves into a position to start going after the 2027 presidential vote.
Pushing for One OPposition Candidate
The former Deputy President also let slip that he & the other opposition leaders are going to be having a lot of discussions in the coming months – all with the aim of figuring out who will be the oppositions candidate for President and who will be sharing the ticket with them as VP, and who will be in charge of what in the new administration.
Gachagua is keen to make it clear that he & his team are very serious about opposition coordination & its all in the runup to the 2027 General Election
Hassan Omar’s Questionable Dead Voters Remark
Gachaguas comments also touched on a separate controversy surrounding UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar.
Just a few weeks before, Omar made a pretty outlandish claim that political bigwigs would do just about anything to get votes, including supposedly using the fingerprints of people who’d just kicked the bucket.
“We’re prepared to do whatever it takes to get our votes on election day,” Omar said, in a remark that’s left a lot of heads shaking. “We get their finger prints before we even bury them, so that their vote counts” he rather callously added.
Those comments caused a stir because they raised questions over whether Kenya’s biometric voting system can actually prevent dead people from casting a ballot.
IEBC Commissioner Isn’t Having It on Dead Voters
IEBC Commissioner Alutalala Mukhwana didn’t buy into the idea that deceased people are somehow being registered to vote through the electoral system. He explained that the voter identification tech the IEBC uses relies on biometrics, like fingerprints and iris scanning.
“Can a dead person register to vote or even cast a ballot with our machines, which depend on biometric features like fingerprints and iris?” he asked, rather incredulously. “So how is this even possible?”
He also had some choice words for politicians who are making wild claims about the electoral process words of caution to avoid rocking the public’s faith in IEBC.
IEBC Telling Politicians to Pipe Down on Election Claims
Mukwhana’s main message to politicians was to be more careful when talking up the electoral process. He warned that inflammatory remarks could end up eroding people’s trust in IEBC and we’re at a point where we’re all just tired of this nonsense.
“Politicians just need to put a lid on it these sorts of hateful statements are crossing a line,” Mukwhana said. His remarks come in the midst of some pretty heated discussions about the 2027 election and Kenyans are already wondering about the integrity of the whole electoral process.
Gachaughas Strategy for a United Opposition in 2027
And then there are Gachagua’s latest remarks about the opposition’s strategy for the 2027 election. He’s talking about having some pretty in-depth discussions to figure out who’s going to be flying the flag as their presidential candidate who’ll be his running mate and what role other opposition players will have in the whole shebang.
