Kenya Power X Account Hacked: Customers Issued Urgent Warning
Kenya Power is warning people to steer clear of its customer service account on X right now because some scoundrel has gotten their hands on it without permission.
The electricity company sent out a message on Sat Oct 3rd saying that its @KenyaPower_Care X account had been hit by unauthorised access and that they’re doing their best to get it back.
They want the public to ignore any funny messages or instructions that are being pumped out through that account until they’ve got full control back.
Kenya Power Confirms Unauthorised Access to X Account
The X alert put out by Kenya Power says the account was accessed without permission but that the team is already working to fix things.
They say a lot of effort is going into sorting out the problem so they can get access back to the account.
People are being warned not to bother engaging with posts or messages coming from @KenyaPower_Care until the account is properly sorted out.
“Don’t bother responding to any messages you get or take instructions at face value coming from that account – just hold off until we let you know it’s safe again,” they told customers .
The warning is especially important for people who usually use the X account to report power outages, ask questions or get help with their electricity etc.
Customers Told Not to Follow Instructions From Compromised Account
Kenya Power is urging customers to be extra careful until the account has been secured.
If you get a direct message or other instruction from the hacked account, just ignore it & don’t go doing anything it tells you to do just yet.
A hacked social media account can be used to send out dodgy messages, take you to suspect sites or ask for sensitive info so keep all that confidential stuff to yourself for now.

While they’re trying to sort out their hacked account, Kenya Power is telling customers to use the following alternative official channels:
You can usually find them on their verified @KenyaPower X account , their Facebook and Instagram accounts or TikTok too
And , if you need help, the myPower App and the *977# USSD service are there too.
These safe channels will keep you going until they get their customer care account up and running again.
Kenya Power Promises Update After Account Recovery
Once they’ve got control of the @KenyaPower_Care account back again, Kenya Power says they’ll send out an update with all the gory details about what happened.
Until then, just stay safe and don’t do anything that might put you at risk.
The whole episode just goes to show what a risk it is when official social media accounts are taken over in this way – these are the guys who usually help you with your customer service so be on your guard until its all sorted out.
The safest approach is to check with one of Kenya Power’s other official channels before taking any action.
