What Oburu Said on His Birthday After Ida Odinga Addressed His Health
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM ) party boss Oburu Odinga has finally broken his silence on health worries after being noticeably absent from the memorial event marking the first anniversary of his wee brother Raila Odinga’s passing.
Out a social media post on Thursday 15th October , Oburu looked back on what was supposed to have been his birthday, one thats been soured now by the very date being the anniversary of Railas death and took a moment to thank his family , the medical team and ODM supporters for looking out for him.
This message came hot on the heels of Raila’s widow Ida Odinga confirming that the Siaya Senator was indeed still with us but not in great health, adding that the doctors had advised against him turning up to the memorial service.
Oburu Oginga Breaks Silence Amid Health Concerns
Oburu used his birthday message to think on the emotional significance of October 15th , a date which now comes with a whole lot of personal and family baggage thanks to Raila’s passing.
The ODM leader described how this day is now a pretty tricky one to get your head around, part of you wants to be out celebrating your own life but another part of you cant help but think about your younger brother who’s no longer with us.
“Today the 15th of October is more than just another date on the calendar, its a real intersection of life and death & the afterlife if you like” he wrote down
He then went on to say how the coincidence of them both being born & dying on the same day is just one heck of a special connection between the two of them.
“To have been born on this day and for you to have slipped away on this very same date, that just says to me that our bond is written in the stars and no amount of time or distance is gonna make that any different ” he added
Oburu also took a moment to think about how he and Raila had a connection that was more than just a ordinary sibling bond, that it hadnt been broken by his death.
“As Im marking the anniversary of my birthday today Im thinking a great deal about the time we had together and how thats something that transcends death its something that will stay with me forever and I know its something that will stay with me for a long time to come Rest easy little bro” he said
Oburu Thanks Family and Medical Team
Beyond remembering Raila, Oburu wanted to express his heartfelt thanks to the people who made his birthday a little more special and they did a fantastic job.
The ODM leader was grateful to his spouses, Dr. Ann and Mama Judith, the two women who mean the world to him and the medical staff at The Nairobi Hospital, his ODM friends and his domestic crew.
He was genuinely impressed by the way they pulled off that birthday surprise and helped make a pretty tough day a little more bearable.
“Your love and support have made this tough yet special day feel a whole lot better. I really am so grateful, may God shower you all with blessings,” he said.
He combined thanks for those around him with a word of tribute to Raila, who’d passed away a year ago (on the same day).
Ida Odinga Explains Why Oburu Missed Raila’s Memorial
On Thursday, Ida Odinga cleared up the mystery of Oburu’s no-show at the memorial event.
She confirmed that her brother-in-law was very much alive, just not in the best of health.
According to Ida, the doc’s had told Oburu to stay in bed and not bother attending that big get together.
Ida’s comments put to rest all the speculation about Oburu’s wellbeing that’d been swirling online.
Her explanation came at a time when the family was already dealing with all sorts of unfounded reports about his condition.
Oburu’s Recent Hospital Admission and Treatment
It’s no secret that Oburu’s had a few health issues in 2026.
Just last week, he was rushed into The Nairobi Hospital after coming back from medical treatment in the UK.
Now, of course – his recent health woes have got everyone talking because he’s ODM leader and missing Raila’s memorial made headlines.
But the family is kindly asking the public to just let him rest and not circulate all these unverified claims about his health.
Oburu’s Family Warns Against Fake Health Reports
We’ve seen this sort of fake news circulating online about Oburu’s health before and his family just isn’t having it.
Last time round they put out a statement saying he was just taking some well-deserved time to rest and recover after a couple of weeks of treatment at home and abroad.
Now they’re asking people to give him some space to get his strength back and not pollute the airwaves with unverified gossip.
“Right now, he’s just trying to get his strength back after weeks of treatment, local and international. If some of you folks would just give him time to fully recover, that’d be appreciated. He’s looking forward to getting back in the thick of things sooner rather than later. In the meantime, just be mindful of what you’re sharing, okay?”
The family is also pleading with people to think before sharing info, that unverified stuff can cause a lot of distress to individuals and their families.
The latest headlines have just reminded everyone that Oburu’s still recovering and the family is still politely asking for some privacy.
