Court Orders Man to Pay Soldier KSh 5,000 Monthly Over Affair With Wife
A dramatic family dispute has ended in court after a man was ordered to compensate a soldier with monthly payments of KSh 5,000 for being found in a relationship with the officer’s wife.
The case unfolded after military officer Michael Bwalya received a troubling tip from his eldest daughter about his wife’s suspicious movements. Determined to find out the truth, Bwalya set off one evening with two close friends, Sylvia Phiri and Humphrey Kayambe.
Their suspicions were confirmed when they found his wife, Rose, walking hand in hand with Maybin Myula. “The moment they saw me, he released her hand. I was so upset, but I kept calm,” Bwalya told Senior Local Court Magistrate Elias Kasonde.
Despite the heartbreak, the soldier followed the pair to Myula’s residence where a heated confrontation broke out. Myula attempted to defend himself, claiming Rose had told him she had been divorced for 15 years. The explanation, however, only deepened the soldier’s pain, as he had built a family with her.
“I told them they should consider themselves married. I was so furious I almost killed him, but I restrained myself,” Bwalya recounted in court.
The case eventually landed before the local court where Myula denied committing adultery, insisting he was only escorting Rose to buy medicine. Magistrate Kasonde dismissed the claim and ruled that Myula was indeed guilty of engaging in the affair.
The court ordered Myula to pay a total compensation of 98,000 in monthly instalments of about KSh 5,000 to the soldier.
For Bwalya, the ruling was more than just financial redress. It was a matter of dignity and justice, proving that even in cases of betrayal, accountability could still be achieved through legal means.
