Woman Gives Birth During Sifuna’s Speech in Bungoma
A women’s empowerment forum in Bungoma on Sunday, July 14, 2025, took a dramatic turn when a woman went into labour and gave birth as Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna was addressing the gathering.
The crowd gasped in shock and shouted in unison, “Mama amejifungua!” Senator Sifuna stopped his speech, looking alarmed, and asked, “Nani huyo?”
Quick to respond, Sifuna directed that the woman be rushed to hospital immediately.
“Apelekwe hospitali, sindio? Nani ako na yeye? Mheshimiwa ametuma gari apelekwe hospitali,” he said, arranging for a vehicle to take her to hospital.
He also offered to cover a week’s worth of diapers for the newborn.
“Na tutawacha pesa ya diaper ya mtoto ya wiki mzima,” he announced.
The crowd was touched and urged more support for the mother. Sifuna obliged, reached into his pocket and gave her Ksh 20,000 on the spot.
“Ya mama, ndo hii shillingi 20,000,” he declared.
Bus Delivery Incident
Earlier that week, on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, another woman delivered her baby on an ENA Coach bus traveling from Nairobi to Sori in Migori County.
According to the company’s statement, the woman went into labour during the evening trip and with the help of bus staff and passengers, gave birth on board.
“This evening, a healthy baby was safely delivered on our Nairobi–Sori bound bus, KDK 036U. We are so proud of our staff and fellow passengers who came to the rescue with care and compassion during this amazing experience,” ENA Coach said.
The baby was nicknamed Baby 036U after the bus’s registration number.
“Interestingly, this is just two months after we welcomed Baby 035U on one of our buses. Congratulations to the happy mother and her family,” the statement concluded.
