Wamatangi Exposes Disturbing Call from Top Officer Before EACC Stormed His Home

Wamatangi Exposes Disturbing Call from Top Officer Before EACC Stormed His Home

Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has disclosed that he received a threatening phone call from a senior government official shortly before his home and office were raided by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC). He claims the call was part of a broader scheme to tarnish his reputation and destabilize his leadership.

Speaking after his release on Tuesday, Governor Wamatangi recounted the disturbing warning.

“Somebody called me, a very senior officer, and told me, ‘Even if you are going to finish your governorship, you will be so dirty, we will have made you dirty,’” he revealed.

The governor suggested the threat was a precursor to the EACC operation, which he believes was politically motivated. He asserted that the raid was orchestrated to undermine his administration and frustrate development efforts in Kiambu County.

“I am not afraid. I will not be cowed, and I will not be intimidated. I will stand by the principle that our people deserve what is right,” he said.

Governor Wamatangi also questioned the legitimacy of the search warrant, describing it as fraudulent and improperly executed. According to him, the order contained incorrect names and was used to carry out an unlawful intrusion into his home.

“The order that was used to come and harass my family was fictitious. It was obtained fraudulently. I am the governor of Kiambu. If there is any reason to summon me, I will present myself willingly,” he said.

He expressed concern over the scale of the operation, noting that more than 50 police officers were deployed to his home and office, with nearly 200 others sent to offices of senior county officials.

“There is no reason to deploy such numbers unless the goal is intimidation. They are clearly targeting my ministers who are delivering results,” Wamatangi stated.

During the raid, EACC officers reportedly seized numerous documents, including personal records such as birth and graduation certificates, though none were relevant to the ongoing investigation.

Earlier the same day, the EACC announced that the raid was part of an investigation into a Sh230 million contract for an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, allegedly awarded under questionable circumstances. The commission also cited possible procurement irregularities, conflict of interest, and abuse of office involving Kiambu County officials.
