On Friday, April 11, President William Ruto visited the construction site of the upcoming Talanta Sports City, where he assessed the ongoing development of the ultra-modern sports complex.

Following the inspection, President Ruto expressed his satisfaction with the progress made so far.

“I am impressed by the progress made in the construction of the world-class Talanta Sports City that will significantly elevate our country’s sporting profile,” he stated.

He confirmed that walling on the stadium is already in progress, with equipping and finishing works set to commence soon.

The President also highlighted the project’s positive impact on employment. Over 3,300 youth are currently engaged in the construction activities.

“Walling on the 60,000-seater facility, which has employed more than 3,300 youth, has started, with equipping and finishes set to begin soon. At this pace, the Talanta Sports City will be ready for use by the end of this year,” he added.

Designed to meet FIFA standards, the stadium will accommodate 60,000 spectators. It is intended to host major football and rugby events, distinguishing itself from traditional stadiums by excluding a running track.

Separate adjacent fields will be constructed to cater specifically to athletics, allowing the main arena to focus solely on football and rugby.

Construction began with a groundbreaking ceremony held on March 1, 2024. The project is slated for completion by December 2025.

The development is being undertaken by the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), under the supervision of the Kenya Defence Forces Engineering Department.

During the groundbreaking, President Ruto emphasized the importance of discipline and inter-ministerial collaboration to ensure timely completion and adherence to high standards.

“I have agreed with the ministries, and that is why the Ministry of Sports and the Ministry of Defence are also represented here. We want this stadium built to world-class standards, using military discipline,” he remarked.

He further directed consistent oversight of the project.

“I expect our defence team—Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, the CDF, and others—to ensure the contractor adheres to the agreed timelines. There will be supervision every week, every two weeks, and I will personally visit every three months until the facility is complete,” he affirmed.
