Survivor Breaks Silence After Brutal Knife Assault by Imam at Njiru’s Taqwa Mosque
Tension gripped the Taqwa Mosque in Njiru, Nairobi, after an Imam reportedly stabbed two individuals in a violent altercation believed to stem from a leadership dispute.
The incident unfolded following an ongoing rift between rival factions vying for control of the mosque. According to sources, police officers were initially called to the scene to mediate and restore order. However, the situation escalated shortly after their departure.
Eyewitnesses report that the Imam returned to the mosque armed with a court order asserting his claim to leadership. Confrontations soon erupted, culminating in the Imam allegedly drawing a knife and attacking two individuals.
One of the victims, speaking from the hospital, revealed that the dispute had been festering for a long time. He claimed the Imam was not a member of the local community and accused him of using his religious title to assert control over the mosque’s affairs.
“Every time he tries to take over the leadership of the mosque, he hides inside the mosque because he doesn’t belong to this community,” the victim stated. “He uses the title of Imam to force his way into matters that don’t concern him.”
The victim, who sustained stab wounds to the stomach and hand, added, “We told him he should not be here. That’s when he decided to stab me.”
Both victims were rushed to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, where they received medical attention for their injuries.
Authorities have since confirmed the arrest of the Imam. “We received reports of a violent confrontation moments after we had left the mosque. It was reported that an Imam had stabbed two individuals. The suspect is currently in custody as investigations continue,” police said.
The incident comes just days after Muslims across the country concluded the Holy Month of Ramadhan, observed from March 1 to March 30. During this sacred period, Muslims fast from dawn to sunset in a time of reflection, prayer, and community.
