Super Metro Temporarily Suspends Services for Three Days Following TLAB Directive

Super Metro Temporarily Suspends Services for Three Days Following TLAB Directive

Super Metro has announced a temporary suspension of its services for three days in compliance with a directive issued by the Transport Licensing Appeals Board (TLAB).

In a statement released on Monday, April 14, the company reported having achieved 90% compliance with the directives issued by both the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and TLAB. However, the company will pause its operations for the next three days to finalize the remaining compliance measures.

“Super Metro Limited wishes to inform the public and our valued customers that we have achieved 90% compliance with the directives issued by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and the Transport Licensing Appeals Board (TLAB). We remain committed to fully adhering to all regulatory requirements to ensure the safety and satisfaction of our passengers,” the company stated.

The company further noted that following a hearing with the TLAB, it had been directed to suspend operations temporarily to allow for the completion of outstanding compliance issues.

“Super Metro Limited fully respects the decisions of the TLAB and the court. We are working diligently to address the outstanding compliance issues within the stipulated timeframe and will resume operations as soon as we receive approval from the relevant authorities,” the statement added.

The company expressed regret for the inconvenience caused by the temporary suspension and reiterated its commitment to providing safe, reliable, and efficient transport services.

Super Metro’s operator license was previously suspended by NTSA on Tuesday, March 18. However, the TLAB halted that suspension on Monday, March 24, allowing the company to resume operations as a Public Service Vehicle (PSV) operator pending a full hearing of the matter.

The NTSA had initially suspended Super Metro’s license until the company achieved full compliance with the Public Service Vehicles Regulations, 2014, and met other specified conditions.

In a statement on Thursday, March 20, NTSA stated that the decision was aimed at ensuring the company meets the required safety standards to protect passengers and other road users.

“This is to notify the public that the Authority has suspended Super Metro Limited’s operator license until the company fully complies with the Public Service Vehicles Regulations, 2014, and other set conditions. The decision was necessitated by the need to ensure the company is not only compliant, but that it has put in place safety measures to protect the lives of its passengers and other road users,” read the statement.

NTSA directed Super Metro to present 294 vehicles with various violations to certified speed limiter vendors for compliance checks. The same vehicles were also required to undergo inspection at the Likoni Motor Vehicle Inspection Centre and receive compliance reports.

In addition, Super Metro was instructed to present 42 drivers—selected from 109 with recorded speed violations—for retesting at the Likoni Driver Test Centre. NTSA noted that 64 drivers had previously failed a retest conducted on March 10, 2025, resulting in the suspension of their driving licenses.

Other directives included the removal of unqualified drivers, submission of signed employment contracts for all staff, and proof of compliance with Section 5(1)(e) of the regulations. The company was also required to provide six-month payroll records, PAYE, NSSF, and SHA remittances, and to conduct road safety sensitization training for all drivers.

Super Metro reaffirmed its commitment to meeting these requirements and resuming full operations in accordance with the law.
