Senator Tabitha Karanja Refutes Hospitalization Rumors, Confirms She Is on Vacation in London
Nakuru Senator Tabitha Karanja has firmly denied widespread claims that she is hospitalized in London. In a public statement released on Friday, May 2, the Senator clarified that although she is currently in the United Kingdom, her visit is purely for personal reasons and not related to any health concerns.
“As you are aware, the Senate is currently on a short recess, which began on April 18 and will end on May 5. I have taken this opportunity to step away from my busy schedule for a brief vacation here in London. I am in excellent health, full of energy, and fully prepared to resume my oversight duties next week,” Karanja explained in her statement.
Her remarks come in the wake of comments made by Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika, who, during an interview with a vernacular radio station on Thursday, alleged that the Senator had been hospitalized. “I want to wish a quick recovery to Senator Tabitha Karanja. I know she is in a hospital in London,” Kihika remarked during the broadcast.
Karanja promptly addressed the issue, dismissing the Governor’s claims as false and politically motivated. According to her, the misinformation appears to be part of a coordinated smear campaign orchestrated through online platforms. She further suggested that some of these narratives were being pushed by bloggers and influencers allegedly funded by individuals within the Nakuru County administration.
“These are fake news being spread by paid bloggers and social media influencers, unfortunately, some of whom are being financed by officials within the county government using public resources,” she stated.

The Senator went on to criticize the alleged misuse of public funds, emphasizing that such resources should be redirected toward initiatives that benefit the county’s residents. “These funds should instead be channeled toward meaningful development for our people,” Karanja added.
Her statement not only refuted the health rumors but also hinted at ongoing political tensions between her and the county leadership. The Senator and Governor Kihika have had a strained relationship, marked by public disagreements on governance and accountability.
Karanja reaffirmed her commitment to her role, making it clear that political intimidation would not deter her from executing her mandate. “No amount of intimidation will deter me from executing my roles in oversight, representation, and legislation,” she asserted.
She further reassured her constituents in Nakuru that she remains focused on delivering her constitutional responsibilities. “I will be returning to the country next week, fully recharged and ready to continue serving the people of Nakuru with integrity and dedication,” she assured.
The incident has sparked broader public discussion, especially considering recent concerns about absentee leadership within the county. Notably, Governor Kihika herself faced scrutiny earlier this year for her extended absence, having spent over five months in the United States on maternity leave. Critics have argued that such prolonged absences can affect county operations and undermine public trust.
The Senator’s strong response and insistence on transparency reflect growing calls for accountability in Nakuru’s leadership. Her emphasis on responsible use of public resources and her resistance to political pressure have resonated with many of her supporters.
As the Senate prepares to resume next week, all eyes will be on how this political standoff unfolds. The renewed tensions between the two prominent Nakuru leaders may shape the region’s political landscape moving forward.
In the meantime, Karanja’s clarification has settled the matter regarding her health. Her proactive communication offers a sharp contrast to the rumor-based narrative initially circulated, reinforcing the importance of verified information in public discourse.
