Senator Gloria Orwoba Expelled from UDA Party & Parliament
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has formally expelled nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba from the party. The decision was reached following allegations of disloyalty and violations of the party’s constitutional principles.
In an official statement released on Monday, May 19, UDA Secretary General Senator Hassan Omar confirmed the expulsion, stating that the party’s Disciplinary Committee had undertaken an extensive review of the complaints brought against Senator Orwoba.
According to Omar, the Committee found that Orwoba had acted in contravention of the party’s Constitution, particularly on matters concerning allegiance to party values and conduct expected of its members.
“Pursuant to Article 29 of the UDA Party Constitution, and having exhaustively deliberated on the matters before it, the Party’s Disciplinary Committee has resolved that Sen. Gloria Orwoba be expelled from the membership of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party with immediate effect,” Omar said.
The Disciplinary Committee’s findings were subsequently adopted and ratified by the UDA National Executive Committee (NEC) during its meeting held on the same day, May 19, 2025. This ratification made the expulsion official and effective immediately.
“Further, during its meeting held on 19th May 2025, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Party adopted and ratified the Disciplinary Committee’s decision. Accordingly, Sen. Gloria Orwoba ceases to be a member of the UDA Party,” Omar stated.
Following her expulsion, Orwoba loses all rights and privileges associated with UDA membership. She is no longer authorized to represent the party in any official or unofficial capacity.
“Consequently, she no longer enjoys any privileges accorded to party members nor is she authorized to represent or act on behalf of the Party in any capacity,” Omar added.
The party has since taken further procedural steps to formalize the vacancy created by her removal. Official communication has been made to the Speaker of the Senate, initiating the legal process required to strip Orwoba of her Senate seat.
Additionally, UDA has written to the Registrar of Political Parties (RPP) and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to notify them of the decision and to facilitate administrative procedures tied to the expulsion.
In anticipation of filling the Senate seat, UDA has nominated Consolata Wabwire Wakwabubi, a party member from Kimilili Constituency in Bungoma County. Her name was drawn from the party list previously submitted to the IEBC ahead of the 2022 General Elections.
“In accordance with the Party’s Nomination Rules and based on the Party List submitted to the IEBC prior to the 2022 General Elections, the Party has nominated Mrs. Consolata Wabwire Wakwabubi from Kimilili Constituency, Bungoma County, to fill the resulting vacancy,” the statement read.
The party insists that its decision reflects not only adherence to its internal rules but also a broader commitment to strengthening political discipline within Kenya’s multiparty system. Omar emphasized that loyalty to a political party is not merely symbolic but an operational necessity within democratic governance.
“While the UDA Party upholds the values of freedom of expression and association as enshrined in the Constitution of Kenya 2010, fidelity and loyalty to party ideals are fundamental to its constitution and to further consolidate our multiparty politics by strengthening political parties,” Omar said.
He further stated that a member cannot serve conflicting interests or operate under two political allegiances simultaneously. According to the UDA, such actions undermine party unity and cohesion.
“Gloria Orwoba cannot, therefore, continue to play for two political teams simultaneously,” the statement concluded.
The expulsion of Senator Orwoba underscores UDA’s firm stance on discipline and loyalty among its elected and nominated leaders. The party maintains that consistent alignment with its policies, code of conduct, and overall political direction is expected of all its members without exception.
This development may carry broader implications within the political landscape, particularly among parties keen on enforcing internal cohesion and ideological clarity. As the legal process now moves to the Senate and relevant regulatory bodies, the formal conclusion of Senator Orwoba’s tenure under the UDA ticket appears inevitable.

Orwoba, a vocal and occasionally controversial figure within the Senate, has yet to issue an official response to the party’s decision. It remains unclear whether she will challenge the expulsion through legal or political means.
For now, the United Democratic Alliance has taken a definitive position, signaling that deviation from the party line will be met with swift and decisive action. The nomination of Consolata Wabwire Wakwabubi now awaits validation from the appropriate electoral and parliamentary channels, as UDA seeks to complete the succession process in accordance with the law.
