Salasya Advises Sifuna After Ruto’s Disciplinary Threat

Salasya Advises Sifuna After Ruto’s Disciplinary Threat

Mumias East Member of Parliament, Peter Salasya, has called on Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna to step down from his role as Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, April 13, Salasya criticized Sifuna for opposing the government, despite ODM’s current cooperation with the ruling administration. According to Salasya, this contradiction undermines the party’s credibility.

“Edwin Sifuna, my brother from Western, come back home! Step down as ODM SG. You can’t oppose a government your party sleeps with. ODM’s days are fading, and so are yours if you stay,” Salasya stated.

His remarks follow a stern warning from President William Ruto, who cautioned Sifuna of possible disciplinary action. Speaking in Siaya County during the burial of Raila Odinga’s long-serving bodyguard, George Oduor, the President reminded the senator of his historical ties to the party.

“When you speak about me, Edwin Sifuna, know that I am a founding member of ODM. If you push me too far, I will call for a meeting of the founding members, and if we do, we can discipline you,” President Ruto said.

Earlier at the same event, Senator Sifuna had delivered a strongly-worded speech criticizing the government’s handling of national affairs. He asserted that many of the challenges facing the administration were self-inflicted.

Referencing the recent controversy involving Butere Girls High School’s banned performance of Echoes of War, Sifuna urged President Ruto to take full control of his administration.

“Like the Bishop mentioned, your job is very hard, and I agree with him because at some point I usually wonder if you get to sleep. However, there are some difficulties you have imposed on yourself.

“Like the drama we saw in Nakuru, where Butere Girls’ students were stopped from performing—that’s a problem you have imposed on yourself,” Sifuna said.
