Politician Dies One Week After Horrific Road Accident

Former Sikhendu Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA), Erick Wanyonyi Musumba, has passed away.

Musumba died on Monday, April 14, at Eldoret Lifecare Hospital, where he had been taken for specialized treatment following a tragic road accident.

According to his aide, the former MCA sustained serious injuries in a road accident that occurred along the Kitale–Webuye Road, near Matunda Bridge.

“It is with profound sorrow and unbearable pain that we mourn the untimely demise of Hon. Erick Wanyonyi Musumba, former MCA of Sikhendu Ward, Trans Nzoia County (2017–2022). Hon. Musumba tragically lost his life in a road accident on Monday at Matunda Bridge along the Kitale–Webuye Road,” said the aide in a statement to Independent.co.ke.

Following the accident, Musumba was first admitted to Cheranganyi Nursing Home, where he was scheduled to undergo surgery due to multiple injuries.

However, his condition deteriorated before the operation could be performed. He was subsequently referred to Eldoret Lifecare Hospital for further medical attention.

“Sadly, he never woke up from the operation. He was later referred to Eldoret Lifecare Hospital for specialized treatment, but he passed on before reaching the Intensive Care Unit. His sudden departure has left a gaping wound in our hearts and in the entire Sikhendu community,” the aide added.

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya expressed deep sorrow over Musumba’s death, describing him as a committed and selfless leader.

“It is with profound sadness that I share the news of the sudden passing of the esteemed Hon. Eric Musumba, the former MCA of Sikhendu Ward. Mr. Musumba was tragically involved in a fatal road accident last Monday. His dedicated service and unwavering commitment to our community will always be remembered,” the governor said.

He extended his heartfelt condolences to Musumba’s family, friends, and constituents, praying for peace and comfort during this difficult time.

“May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may we all draw strength and comfort from our collective prayers,” Governor Natembeya concluded.
