Police Respond After Rigathi Gachagua Makes Chilling Claim on Alleged Assassination Plot
The National Police Service (NPS) has advised former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to contact the police should he have any concerns regarding his personal safety.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, April 15, and signed by Police Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga, the NPS further urged Mr. Gachagua to share details of his travel plans. This, they noted, would enable the Service to plan and coordinate appropriate security measures.
“In light of Hon. Gachagua’s security concerns, he is advised to liaise with police officers at all levels should he require additional security measures,” the statement read in part. “He is also encouraged to notify the police in advance of his movements and public engagements to facilitate proper planning and coordination.”
The NPS reaffirmed its commitment to addressing the security needs of the former Deputy President and ensuring the safety of all citizens. The Service also emphasized its neutrality, stating that it does not operate under the influence of any political faction.
“NPS assures the public that the security situation nationwide remains stable,” the statement continued. “Proactive measures have been implemented to prevent criminal activities. Police shall dutifully respond to all security needs as and when requested, as provided for under the law.”
The statement concluded by underscoring the NPS’s dedication to professionalism and impartiality. “As a Service, we remain apolitical and steadfast in deploying intelligence-led operations to preempt and respond to security threats. These efforts are undertaken through multi-agency collaboration and in strict adherence to the rule of law and respect for human rights.”
The police response follows remarks by Mr. Gachagua, in which he alleged threats to his life. He cited violent incidents that had occurred during some of his recent public appearances.
Additionally, Mr. Gachagua expressed concern over the withdrawal of his security detail by Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja.
“Take firm notice that, should further violence or assassination attempts be carried out against me, you will be personally responsible to the people of the Republic of Kenya and the entire world,” he stated.
