Another Gen Z Activist and X blogger Reported Missing Following Alleged Police Raid
The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) is going to court after Gen Z activist and IT expert Ndiangui Kinyagia, 31, was reported missing. This follows an alleged police operation at his residence in Kinoo, Nairobi, on Sunday, during which officers reportedly took away personal items.
According to the family, officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrived at Kinyagia’s residence at around 2:00 p.m. and stayed for about nine hours.
Neighbours said the officers used about ten vehicles and broke into the house at around 9:00 p.m. after hours of negotiations with the building’s caretaker.
The officers took two laptops, two mobile phones, passports and other documents before locking the premises.
Kinyagia was not at home during the operation and the family says no court order was presented. His mother last spoke to him on Saturday morning and after that his phone went dead. Friends and relatives have not heard from him since.
The family filed a missing person report at Kinoo Police Station today. But local police said they were not aware of the operation as the DCI team had not informed the station.
In response, the LSK led by its president Faith Odhiambo will file an application at the High Court to compel the police to produce Kinyagia or tell them where he is. A meeting between the family and LSK officials was held today and legal steps were agreed upon.
This raises questions on due process and transparency in law enforcement operations. The LSK’s move is a sign of growing scrutiny on the circumstances surrounding Kinyagia’s disappearance and the legality of the raid.
The authorities have not issued a statement on the operation or Kinyagia’s whereabouts. The High Court application will be filed in the next few days.
