Mwalimu Abduba Dida Released on Parole After Serving Three Years in U.S. Prison

Mwalimu Abduba Dida Released on Parole After Serving Three Years in U.S. Prison

Mwalimu Mohammed Abduba Dida, a two-time presidential candidate, has been released from incarceration in the United States after serving a three-year sentence. Originally sentenced to seven years in prison, Dida’s release came ahead of schedule due to parole.

Although he was expected to remain in custody until April 3, 2029, his early release on March 3, 2025, came as a result of the parole decision.

Parole is a legal mechanism that allows a prisoner to be released from prison before completing their sentence, under certain conditions.

This means that Dida will continue to serve the remainder of his sentence outside the prison system but under strict supervision.

According to official records from the Big Muddy Correctional Facility in Illinois, Dida walked out of the facility a free man on March 3, 2025. He will now be involved in philanthropic work as part of the conditions for his parole.

Dida’s legal troubles began on November 18, 2022, when he was incarcerated after being convicted of stalking and intimidating his American wife.

This case took place in a Midwestern state, where Dida was found to have violated a restraining order by entering an area that was legally off-limits to him.

The violation occurred when Dida visited a mosque situated near the residence of the individual he was prohibited from contacting.

Although his intention was reportedly to attend prayers, his visit inadvertently placed him within a restricted zone, which led to his arrest and eventual incarceration.

A family member of Dida’s has since explained that the incident was not intentional, stating that Dida had no knowledge that the mosque was within an area he was barred from entering. “He went to a mosque nearby to pray, not knowing it was within an area he was barred from entering, as Mama Lila also frequently visited the same mosque,” the family member said, emphasizing that Dida’s actions were a mistake.

Dida’s relatives contend that the breach of the restraining order was accidental and have called for support from the government and legal aid to address the situation.

In the course of his legal battles, Dida was initially detained at the Southwestern Correctional Center before being transferred to the Big Muddy Correctional Facility, where he remained for the duration of his sentence.

As Dida moves forward with his parole, his supporters are hopeful that he will be able to continue contributing positively to society through his philanthropic efforts.

The case has sparked discussions about the nature of parole, the potential for reintegration into society after incarceration, and the importance of understanding the circumstances surrounding legal violations.
