MP Salasya Survives Alleged Kidnap Plot in Mombasa, Links it to 2027 Presidential Bid
Mumias East Member of Parliament, Peter Salasya, has alleged that unidentified individuals posing as police officers attempted to unlawfully arrest him at a hotel in Mombasa. The incident, which he described as criminal and politically motivated, occurred on Saturday, May 10, 2025.
In an official statement shared on his verified Instagram account, the MP strongly condemned the actions of the alleged perpetrators. Salasya stated that the individuals, who stormed his hotel room, failed to present any form of identification, arrest warrant, or legal justification for their conduct.
“I want to categorically condemn the reckless, shameful, and cowardly attempt by unidentified individuals purporting to be police officers who stormed my hotel residence in Mombasa earlier today to unlawfully arrest me,” said Salasya.
He further noted that the operation had all the hallmarks of an intimidation tactic rather than a lawful police intervention.
“These individuals had no identification, no arrest warrant, and no explanation—just a crude, rogue attempt to intimidate me,” he added.
The legislator described the event as a direct attack on his constitutional rights and an affront to the democratic principles of the country. According to Salasya, the act was politically motivated, aimed at suppressing his voice ahead of his planned bid for the presidency in the 2027 general elections.
“This was not an arrest. It was a criminal act disguised as law enforcement. An attack not just on me as a Member of Parliament and 2027 presidential candidate, but on the democratic space of this nation,” he declared.
Salasya called on relevant security agencies to take swift action, demanding transparency on who was behind the attempted arrest. He questioned the silence and inaction of institutions charged with protecting citizens and upholding the rule of law.
“I call upon the relevant security agencies to stop sleeping on their job and swing into immediate action. I demand to know: Who sent these thugs? Who gave them orders to violate my rights? Who is so terrified of my voice that they would resort to such cowardice?” he questioned.

Expressing his determination to stand firm, the MP assured his supporters that he would not be deterred by intimidation or threats. He reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for the rights of Kenyans and defending democratic values.
“To those behind this, hear me loud and clear: you will not silence me. You will not threaten me into submission. No amount of intimidation, harassment, or attempted abduction will stop me from speaking for the people of Kenya and fighting for a country free from tyranny and impunity,” he asserted.
He concluded his statement with a defiant tone, emphasizing his resolve to resist what he termed as dictatorship.
“I will soldier on. I will not blink. Kenya must and will be free from dictatorship,” he added.
In a follow-up social media post, Salasya shared a video purportedly showing armed officers in the hotel lobby. The footage did not capture an arrest but showed members of the public challenging the officers’ actions. Voices in the video can be heard warning the officers against drawing weapons on unarmed civilians.
“Any arrest of a member of parliament is procedural and must be followed. Thank you, Kenyans, for standing with me. We aren’t living in a banana republic but a country that is governed by the rule of law,” he wrote.
MP Salasya Response to UDA Allegations
The Mombasa incident occurred amid mounting speculation regarding Salasya’s political affiliations and sources of funding. Recently, there have been claims that the MP may be linked to the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party or receiving support from the government.
Salasya has categorically denied these allegations. He asserted that he is neither a UDA sympathizer nor a government-sponsored candidate. The MP maintained that he has not received any financial backing from State House or government officials.
“Let me be crystal clear, for the avoidance of doubt: I am not a UDA project. I am not funded by the State House. I have never received a single cent, let alone Ksh 40 million, from Katoo Ole Metito or any government official. Full stop,” he stated.
Salasya, a member of the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K), attributed his political activities and national tours to meticulous planning, public goodwill, and belief in his leadership agenda.
“What you’re witnessing isn’t money at work. It’s pure strategy, unmatched charisma, and massive goodwill from Kenyans who believe in the future I represent,” he remarked.
MP Salasya Ongoing National Tour
Salasya is currently on a nationwide meet-the-people tour, which began on May 1, 2025, in Busia County. He has since visited several counties in the Western region before proceeding to the Coast.
According to his itinerary, the tour will continue in various parts of the country, including Eastern Kenya, Mt. Kenya region, Narok, Kajiado, and Northern Kenya counties such as Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo. The tour is expected to conclude in Nairobi.
Interestingly, Salasya announced that he would deliberately omit Kisumu, Siaya, and Migori counties from his tour. These regions are known strongholds of ODM leader Raila Odinga.

By choosing to bypass these areas, the MP signaled a strategic approach to his political outreach, possibly seeking to avoid unnecessary political confrontation while consolidating his support base elsewhere.
Peter Salasya’s allegations of an attempted unlawful arrest have ignited fresh debate on the state of political freedoms and security in Kenya. As he continues his national engagements and eyes the presidency in 2027, the coming months are likely to test both his resilience and the maturity of Kenya’s democratic institutions. His call for accountability and adherence to the rule of law will resonate strongly among those concerned about the trajectory of political discourse and governance in the country.
