Ministry of Defence Auction Kenya 2026: Vehicles, Equipment and How to Bid

The Ministry of Defence auction Kenya announcement has sparked interest among buyers after the government confirmed the public sale of vehicles, equipment and general stores across five regions.

In a public notice issued on Tuesday, February 24, the Ministry of Defence (MOD) revealed that the auction will take place at multiple locations, giving Kenyans an opportunity to acquire government-disposed assets through a transparent bidding process.

The items will be auctioned at KNB Mtongwe in the Mombasa Region, 43 OCC in Nanyuki, DEFOD Kahawa in Nairobi, 23 OCC Lanet in Nakuru and 63 OCC Modika in Garissa.

Viewing Dates and Locations

Interested bidders will be allowed to inspect the items between March 9, 2026, and March 26, 2026. Viewing will take place on working days from 9 am to 4 pm at the designated yards.

The Ministry emphasized the importance of inspecting items before placing bids, allowing participants to assess the condition of vehicles and equipment ahead of the auction dates.

How to Bid at the MOD Auction

To participate in the Ministry of Defence vehicle auction 2026, bidders must first secure a bid number.

“Interested bidders will be required to pay a refundable bid number deposit of Ksh50,000.00 and Ksh30,000.00 for vehicles/equipment and stores respectively in cash payable to the Ministry of Defence before the last day of viewing. “Each Bid number will only be allowed to bid for one lot. Original catalogue and receipts for both the catalogue and bid number deposits will be presented at the entrance for one to be allowed to participate in the auction,” the Ministry stated.

The deposit is refundable for unsuccessful bidders upon presentation of original receipts.

Auction Schedule

The auctions will begin at 10 am on the following dates:

  • March 31, 2026 – 63 OCC Garissa
  • April 8, 2026 – KNB Mtongwe
  • April 14, 2026 – 43 OCC Nanyuki
  • April 21, 2026 – 23 OCC Nakuru
  • April 28, 2026 – DEFOD Kahawa

Each location will host its auction independently, meaning interested buyers must attend the specific yard where their desired lot is available.

Payment Terms and Collection Rules

Successful bidders must immediately pay 25% of the winning bid once the hammer falls. The remaining balance must be cleared within fourteen days.

Failure to collect purchased items within thirty days after full payment will attract penalties.

“Successful bidders will be required to collect their item(s) within thirty days after making full payment; failure to which they will be liable to pay storage charges at a rate of 1% of the bid offer per day, up to a maximum of three months. Items not collected within the three months will be forfeited together with the monies paid against them,” MOD said.

Special Conditions for Vehicle Buyers

Buyers of auctioned vehicles must comply with strict conditions before putting the vehicles on the road. MOD requires that vehicles be repainted in non-military colour patterns.

Additionally, vehicles must not operate using EX-Military number plates.

The Ministry also directed successful bidders to obtain clearance from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) before collecting purchased items from the sale yards.

Why Government Auctions Attract Buyers

Government auctions often offer vehicles and machinery at competitive prices. However, buyers must be prepared for strict compliance procedures, deposit requirements and deadlines.

With multiple locations involved, this year’s Ministry of Defence auction is expected to draw significant interest from dealers, transport operators and individual buyers.

Those planning to participate are advised to complete deposit payments before the viewing deadline and retain all original receipts to avoid disqualification.
