Migori Man Who Hung on Chopper Carrying Oga Obinna Jailed for 18 Months
A man from Migori, who gained widespread attention for dangerously hanging onto a helicopter carrying popular YouTuber Oga Obinna during a wedding ceremony, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison.
The individual, who has since become widely known as ‘Migori James Bond,’ was found guilty of engaging in a disorderly act that endangered the safety and security of both the helicopter pilot and the five passengers aboard.
The case was brought before Senior Principal Magistrate Mathias Okuche, who, after reviewing the charges, handed down a sentence of either 18 months in prison or a fine of Ksh 500,000.
Odhiambo, the defendant, opted for the imprisonment, having pled guilty to the charges during the court proceedings. The verdict was delivered after Odhiambo had been detained for a week to allow for a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, April 13, just after the wedding of Ohangla musician Prince Indah in Rapogi village, left many in shock.
As visitors were departing the wedding, Odhiambo’s reckless actions went viral, sparking a public outcry. A video of him clinging to the helicopter as it ascended spread rapidly across social media, drawing both admiration for his daring act and concern for his safety.

During the court hearing, Odhiambo expressed genuine remorse for his actions, acknowledging the potential harm caused not only to himself but also to the passengers and the pilot.
In a plea for leniency, he apologized for his behavior, but the court proceeded with sentencing, emphasizing the need to uphold safety standards and deter similar reckless acts in the future.
The investigation revealed the extent of the danger posed by Odhiambo’s actions. The helicopter pilot, who gave an account of the event during the court proceedings, stated that Odhiambo’s behavior jeopardized the lives of everyone aboard.
The pilot explained that security officers had already taken the precaution of instructing the crowd to maintain a 10-meter distance from the aircraft before it took off. Despite this warning, Odhiambo persisted in his attempt to board the chopper. When he was denied access, he resorted to an extreme and dangerous act of hanging onto the helicopter as it ascended into the air.
The police investigation, which culminated in Odhiambo’s arrest, revealed that he had attempted to escape apprehension. On April 15, two days after the incident, Uriri OCPD Enrico Lyomu confirmed that Odhiambo had been located at his home late at night, attempting to evade capture.
After a brief attempt to resist arrest, Odhiambo was handcuffed and escorted to the police station, where he was formally charged.
The case was closely followed by many, as it raised questions about public safety and the increasing trend of risky behavior captured and shared on social media.
Authorities have emphasized the importance of adhering to safety guidelines, particularly in high-risk situations such as helicopter flights, where even minor disruptions can result in catastrophic consequences.
As the case unfolded, Odhiambo’s actions were condemned by many, but some villagers, who had witnessed the scene, recalled his boastful claims about the stunt.
He reportedly bragged that he was prepared to hang on to the helicopter all the way to Nairobi, further highlighting the audacity of his behavior. This statement underscored the recklessness that led to his eventual arrest and sentencing.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of personal responsibility and adherence to safety protocols, particularly in situations involving potential harm to oneself and others.
The judgment aims to send a clear message that such reckless conduct will not be tolerated, ensuring that similar actions are deterred in the future.
