Meru Man Sentenced to 16 Years in Jail Over Affair with Married Pregnant Woman

Meru Man Sentenced to 16 Years in Jail Over Affair with Married Pregnant Woman

A Meru inmate has spoken out about the circumstances that led to his incarceration, which will last until 2039.

Kirimi, a 36-year-old man, shared that his troubles began when he became romantically involved with a married woman. She would visit his home occasionally to engage in a secret affair.

In an interview with Inooro TV, Kirimi recounted the events of a day that would ultimately change the course of his life. According to him, community members — including the local chief and the woman’s husband — caught the two of them together in his house.

Kirimi noted that prior to this incident, he had been involved in a heated exchange with the chief after the latter confiscated his boda boda (motorcycle taxi). During that altercation, Kirimi allegedly issued a threat, which he believes played a role in the chief’s reaction later on.

“When the chief heard that I had a married woman in my house, he came with her husband and other members of the community,” he said.

Upon realizing her husband was part of the group that had arrived, the woman panicked. In an attempt to protect herself and her marriage, she denied knowing Kirimi and accused him of having taken her to his house by force.

“She claimed I had assaulted her and that she had never seen me before,” Kirimi recounted. “She was pregnant at the time and did not want her husband to know she had been unfaithful.”

Following this accusation, Kirimi was charged and taken to court. He was eventually found guilty and sentenced to serve a lengthy prison term.

“I lacked understanding of court procedures and withheld the truth about our affair. I thought I was protecting both of us, but it ended up costing me my freedom,” he explained.

Kirimi now reflects on that decision with regret. He had hoped that remaining silent about the affair would shield the woman from legal consequences and help his case, but the opposite occurred.

“I wish I had told the judge everything. My silence led to a conviction I believe was unfair,” he said.

He expressed hope that the woman might one day come forward to tell the truth and withdraw her claims. According to Kirimi, her false testimony was motivated by a desire to preserve her marriage.

“The experience in prison has been extremely difficult,” he admitted. “I am praying that my appeal is successful so I can get a second chance at life.”
