Police are searching for a gang of about twelve people who robbed a businessman of Sh7 million shortly after he withdrew the cash from a bank on Mama Ngina Street, Nairobi.

The robbery occurred on Friday at around 9:47 a.m. The businessman was walking to a forex bureau on Koinange Street when he was ambushed in an alley by the suspects. The attackers overpowered him, seized the money, and fled the scene.

CCTV footage captured the incident. It shows the gang rushing towards the victim to cause confusion. One member of the group grabbed the money and jumped into a waiting van, which sped off. Others escaped on foot as the businessman raised the alarm.

Police believe the gang had prior knowledge of the transaction. Investigators suspect the suspects trailed the victim from the bank. The businessman later reported the incident at Central Police Station, prompting officers to visit both the scene and the bank as part of the investigation.

This case adds to a growing number of similar robberies reported in recent weeks. In Kitengela, a man was robbed of Sh307,000 he intended to pay construction workers. The attackers in that case posed as police officers.

In another incident in Machakos Town, a man was robbed of nearly Sh1 million after leaving a bank. No suspects have been arrested in connection with any of the cases.

Police say past investigations have revealed that some robberies may be facilitated by rogue bank staff leaking information to criminals. Other incidents have been linked to individuals close to the victims or to suspects posing as customers inside banks to monitor transactions.

There was no immediate comment from the bank involved in the Nairobi incident. Bank officials stated that the matter is under active investigation.

Authorities are urging members of the public to exercise caution when handling large amounts of cash and to consider safer alternatives for money transfers to avoid being targeted by criminals.
