Luo Intellectuals Push for James Orengo Impeachment Over Ruto Jabs
A section of professionals from the Luo community have issued a strongly-worded statement threatening to initiate an impeachment motion against Siaya Governor James Orengo.
This follows what they term as his “disparaging” remarks against the ongoing collaboration between President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, under the framework of the broad-based government.
Governor Orengo, while speaking at the funeral of a local leader, took a swipe at some senior politicians from the region, accusing them of engaging in “psychophancy” and uncritical support of the current administration. His remarks have since drawn sharp criticism from various quarters within the Luo community, particularly from the Ramogi Professional Caucus (RPC)—a Nairobi-based organization comprising intellectuals, business leaders, and technocrats from the Nyanza region.
Addressing the press in Nairobi on Wednesday morning, RPC Chairperson Joshua Nyamori expressed dismay over Governor Orengo’s comments, terming them divisive and regressive. He emphasized that the Luo community is currently focused on unity and development, and that the pact between President Ruto and Raila Odinga offers a rare and valuable opportunity for economic inclusion.
“We want to tell Siaya Governor James Orengo that we are extremely disappointed by his recent remarks at the funeral of Mr. Oduor,” said Nyamori. “At this critical moment, the Luo community stands firmly behind the Ruto-Raila partnership, which we believe is essential for meaningful socio-economic transformation. We cannot afford to remain in perpetual opposition. That strategy has failed us in the past and will continue to marginalize our people.”
Other members of the caucus echoed Nyamori’s sentiments, warning that Governor Orengo’s continued defiance of the broader political consensus could attract serious political consequences, including the possibility of impeachment.
“If he continues to undermine our collective path forward, we will mobilize all legal and political means available to initiate his removal from office,” said Polycarp Ochilo, a senior member of the group.

The caucus further accused Governor Orengo of not only disrespecting the President, but also humiliating former Prime Minister Raila Odinga at a time when he is mourning the loss of a close associate.
“Orengo’s conduct was not only disrespectful to the head of state, but also deeply insensitive to Raila Odinga, who is currently in a period of mourning,” said Rachael Omollo, a leadership consultant and advisor to the RPC. “Such political grandstanding, especially at funerals, does nothing to advance our cause as a community. Governor Orengo owes both leaders a public apology.”
In addition to their criticism of Orengo, the professionals also took issue with ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna over remarks he made at the same funeral, in which he criticized the President. The group cautioned ODM leaders against using emotionally charged events in the region as platforms for partisan political attacks.
“Such rhetoric might be suitable for political rallies in Nairobi or other urban centers,” said Nyamori. “But in Nyanza, where the mood is increasingly shifting towards reconciliation and development, we expect our leaders to speak with responsibility, maturity, and a vision for growth.”
The Ramogi Professional Caucus concluded their statement by reaffirming their commitment to promoting unity, development, and constructive engagement with the national government. They urged all leaders from the Luo community to place the needs of the people above political egos and personal grievances.
“We must seize this moment,” Nyamori emphasized. “Our people deserve better. Let us focus on infrastructure, jobs, healthcare, education, and youth empowerment. That is the legacy we should all strive for.”
