On Sunday, May 4, 2025, several opposition leaders convened at the Wamunyoro residence of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to deliberate on the future of Kenya’s political direction. The meeting aimed to explore a unified strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Following the high-level discussions, Gachagua released a statement highlighting the leaders’ shared resolve to prioritize national interests above personal ambitions. He emphasized their commitment to future generations and the urgent need to rescue the country from ineffective leadership.
“We are prepared to make significant sacrifices for the good of this nation. Our unity is firm, and our voice is clear. Kenya must prosper, and we must rid our country of corrupt dealings and self-serving governance,” Gachagua stated.
He further condemned what he described as negligence and outdated imperialistic influences hindering Kenya’s growth. Gachagua questioned how a country with such potential could continue to suffer under poor governance while millions of citizens, who faithfully pay taxes and work hard, continue to experience deteriorating services and rising economic hardship.
The meeting brought together key political figures, including prominent presidential aspirants for 2027 and their close associates. They expressed intent to form a broad-based political alliance aimed at unseating President William Ruto in the next general election.

Notable attendees included Martha Karua of the People’s Liberation Party, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa, and former cabinet secretaries Fred Matiang’i, Justin Muturi, and Mithika Linturi. Others present were former Agriculture Minister Kipruto arap Kirwa, Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, along with several senators, members of parliament, and ward representatives.
Martha Karua reiterated the coalition’s mission, stating, “We are bringing all Kenyans together with one goal—to reclaim our nation.”
Kalonzo Musyoka, speaking after a thanksgiving service hosted by Gachagua and his wife Dorcas, emphasized the importance of unity and patience in selecting the alliance’s presidential candidate.
“At the right time, we will decide who will lead us,” Kalonzo affirmed. “Our door remains open to all Kenyans, especially the youth. What we witnessed today is a powerful demonstration of resilience, family, and commitment to a better Kenya.”
The leaders concluded the meeting with a pledge to continue consultations as they work towards building a coalition capable of reshaping the country’s political and socio-economic future.
