Linda Mwananchi Campaign Trailer Attacked in Kisumu as Political Tensions Rise
The Linda Mwananchi Campaign Trailer donated to Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has been stoned in Kisumu, escalating concerns over growing political tensions ahead of the 2027 general election.
The incident occurred on Friday, February 20, when the trailer, recently donated by well-wishers, was attacked near Riat in Kisumu. According to reports from Sifuna’s team, unknown individuals pelted the vehicle with stones, damaging its windshield.
The trailer was en route to Kakamega for a rally scheduled this weekend as part of the Linda Mwananchi campaign activities.
“Ishabatizwa…” – Sifuna Alleges State-Sponsored Disruption
Taking to social media shortly after the incident, Sifuna did not hold back.
“Ishabatizwa (It has already been baptised). Our crew reporting that state-sponsored goons struck just after Riat in Kisumu, but the journey still continues,” Sifuna wrote.
The ODM Secretary-General directly accused the government of orchestrating the attack to derail the planned rally. His remarks come at a time when political temperatures are steadily rising, especially among leaders advocating for change through the ballot in 2027.
The Kisumu stoning incident happened barely an hour after Sifuna had publicly announced that supporters had donated a trailer to boost his campaign efforts.
Trailer Donation Followed Earlier Disruption
The donation came after another alleged attack in Kitengela where Sifuna’s sound system was reportedly damaged. Supporters quickly mobilized to ensure his campaign activities would not stall.
” ‘We saw you struggling with sound.’. So you guys were serious! They will not believe! Now, where do I get space to enjoy the 20 chickens I have been given in Kakamega?” Sifuna posed.
The light-hearted remark underscored the resilience and grassroots backing behind his Linda Mwananchi campaign, even as disruptions continue.
Opposition Rallies Under Pressure
The attack on the Linda Mwananchi Campaign Trailer is not an isolated case. Politicians advocating for the removal of President William Ruto in 2027 have recently reported interruptions at public gatherings.
Earlier, former Chief Justice David Maraga and his campaign team were reportedly attacked by rowdy youth in Tharaka Nithi County. Maraga later condemned the incident and called for political tolerance nationwide.
In a strongly worded statement, the United Opposition reiterated that every Kenyan has a constitutional right to assemble peacefully. The coalition further urged law enforcement agencies to guarantee security during political events.
They also demanded that any officers allegedly used to intimidate opposition figures be arrested and prosecuted.
Growing Concerns Over Political Climate
As Kenya edges closer to the 2027 election cycle, incidents like the Kisumu stoning are raising alarm among observers. Political rallies, once platforms for debate and civic engagement, are increasingly becoming flashpoints for confrontation.
For Sifuna and his supporters, however, the message remains defiant: the journey continues.
Despite the shattered windshield, the trailer reportedly proceeded toward Kakamega as planned, symbolizing the campaign’s determination to press forward.
