Kiambu Police Rescue Kidnap Victim, Arrest Five in High-Stakes Operation
A man kidnapped in Kiambu has been rescued by detectives in a dramatic operation that ended with the arrest of five suspects in Thindigua. The gang had demanded a ransom of KSh500,000 for the victim’s release.
The ordeal came to light when the victim’s girlfriend attempted to call him, only to be met with an unfamiliar voice demanding the ransom. Alarmed, she immediately alerted the authorities, triggering a multi-agency manhunt.
“The victim’s girlfriend’s call to her boyfriend was answered by an unidentified voice demanding KSh500,000 for his safe return,” the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed.
Following intelligence reports, Kiambu Sub-County detectives traced the kidnappers’ trail to Ithanga, where the victim was rescued in a dire state. He bore visible injuries and a blood-stained shirt, evidence of the brutal treatment he had suffered.
The operation culminated near Quickmatt in Thindigua, where the suspects were apprehended. They have been identified as Sydney Ezra Achanda, John Louise Omondi, Enock Sum Cheruyot, Peter Kanini Mwangi, and Lucy Sara Muhonja.
According to DCI, the kidnappers had already collected KSh68,000 before the rescue. Two vehicles used during the crime – a Suzuki Swift (KDD 841D) and a Mazda Demio (KDP 468Y) – were impounded. Investigators found a kitchen knife, ten mobile phones, and a tablet in the vehicles, raising suspicions of the gang’s involvement in other criminal activities.
“The five suspects are currently in custody, undergoing processing ahead of their court appearance,” the agency reported.
