Kenya Power Announces Monday Blackouts in Six Counties
Kenya Power has announced a nationwide maintenance exercise that will disrupt electricity supply in parts of six counties on Monday, September 22, 2025.
In a statement issued on Sunday via its official X account, the electricity distributor outlined the areas expected to be affected, along with the timelines for the planned interruptions.
The exercise, which the utility company described as routine maintenance, will impact customers in the Central Rift, North Rift, Western, Mt. Kenya, and Coast regions.
Central and North Rift Regions
In the Central Rift, residents of Kericho County will experience an outage from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Affected areas include Londian Township, Baration, Nukiati, Kipsiricheti, Tulyobei Market, Londian Sub-District Hospital, Black Tulips Farm, Kapkondo, Jagor, and surrounding customers.
Parts of Bomet County will also be affected during the same hours, including Koiwa Market, Sotit Market, Rorok Tea Factory, Kobel Tea Factory, Siono EPZ Tea Factory, Cheptalal, Taboino, Kimarwandi, Embomos, Bosto, Satiet, Kaptebengwet, Kiptenden, and nearby communities.
In the North Rift, sections of Nandi County will go without electricity between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. The areas listed include the Emrock Tea Factory zone, Himaki, Lelwak, Kogamei, and adjacent customers.
Western, Mt. Kenya, and Coast Regions
In the Western Region, Kakamega County residents in Matete and Mbande will be affected by outages running from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The blackout will cover Matete, Mbande, Matsakha, Chebwai, Lueshe, Butali Sugar, Shivanga, Tombo, Butali Market, Namaranja, Namagara, and the surrounding areas.
Meanwhile, in the Mt. Kenya Region, parts of Nyeri County will experience interruptions from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Key areas include Wandumbi, Gatumbiro Market, Gatumbiro School, Huhoini, Gaithuri Market, Kinyungu TBC, TEWASCO Water Plant, Kirurumi Dispensary, Gathathini Secondary, Wagatu TBC, and nearby locations.
At the Coast, residents of Taita Taveta County will be without electricity from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Chakaleri and Kizima. This will affect Landi Market, Chakaleri, NYS Mgeno, Mzwanenyi, Mwautunge, Msisienyi, Majengo Singila, and adjacent customers. The entire Mwarangini area, including Godoma and Mwemba, will also be hit by the outage.

Kenya Power emphasized that the scheduled blackouts are part of its regular maintenance program aimed at improving service delivery and network reliability. The company shared the detailed list of affected areas to help customers prepare in advance.
