KeNHA Issues Official Notice of Planned 8-Hour Traffic Interruption on Mombasa Road

KeNHA Issues Official Notice of Planned 8-Hour Traffic Interruption on Mombasa Road

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced an eight-hour traffic disruption along Mombasa Road that will take place over the upcoming weekend.

This disruption is expected to affect motorists traveling towards Nairobi and will occur between 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, and 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 27, 2025.

The purpose of this traffic interruption is to facilitate the installation of fabricated footbridge beams at the Katani Road Junction.

In an official notice issued early on Sunday, KeNHA confirmed the details of the disruption, emphasizing the expected inconvenience for travelers on the Nairobi-bound lanes.

According to the notice, “A section of Mombasa Road (A8) near Katani Road Junction will experience traffic disruption along the Nairobi-bound lanes from Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 10:00 p.m. to Sunday, April 27, 2025, at 6:00 a.m.” The statement went on to clarify that the interruption is part of ongoing infrastructure improvements designed to enhance pedestrian safety along the highway.

To mitigate the effects of the disruption, KeNHA has outlined a comprehensive traffic management plan. Motorists traveling towards Nairobi are advised to use alternate routes as indicated in the map provided by KeNHA.

Specifically, drivers will be directed to the service lanes adjacent to the Katani Road Junction, which will be accessible starting from Mlolongo. This diversion is intended to keep traffic flowing smoothly while allowing the installation work to proceed without major delays.

The disruption is expected to have a significant impact on travelers, particularly those who choose to drive during the night. Many people rely on Mombasa Road for their weekend journeys, and the eight-hour window for the disruption may lead to delays for those planning to reach Nairobi or other destinations in time.

KeNHA has encouraged all motorists to plan their journeys accordingly, keeping in mind the potential delays and ensuring they are aware of the alternate routes in place.

This announcement marks the second such disruption on Mombasa Road this month. Earlier, on Wednesday, April 16, KeNHA issued a similar notification for Mombasa-bound motorists.

That disruption, which was also scheduled for the night, was set to take place from 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, to 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 20, 2025. The primary objective of both disruptions is to allow the installation of fabricated footbridge beams, a key element in improving pedestrian access and safety along the busy highway.

KeNHA has emphasized the importance of public cooperation in ensuring the smooth execution of these works. Motorists are urged to follow the designated traffic management plans and to be mindful of the police and traffic marshals on-site, who will be assisting in managing the flow of vehicles.

The authority also recommended that travelers keep a close eye on further updates to stay informed about any potential changes to the traffic disruption schedule.

While the planned traffic disruptions on Mombasa Road may cause some inconvenience, they are an essential part of improving infrastructure and safety for both motorists and pedestrians. KeNHA continues to prioritize the implementation of these upgrades and urges all road users to be patient and understanding during the course of the work.

As with any large-scale road project, cooperation from the public is crucial to ensuring that the benefits of these improvements are realized in the long term.
