Homa Bay MCA Vickins Bondo Escapes Death After Night Attack by Unknown Assailants

West Kasipul Member of County Assembly (MCA) Vickins Bondo is currently recovering at home after sustaining serious head injuries during a violent attack on the night of Saturday, April 26.

The incident occurred in the Lucky Summer area, where Bondo was walking with his younger sister and a group of friends, heading to an undisclosed location.

During the walk, they were suddenly confronted by a group of armed assailants who ambushed them, leaving Bondo with a head injury that required immediate medical attention.

Chrisphine Oloo, Bondo’s brother, spoke exclusively with TUKO about the harrowing details of the attack.

According to Oloo, Bondo reported hearing the unmistakable sound of a gun being cocked, which caused him to instinctively drop to the ground. His friends, in a panic, fled the scene to escape the attackers.

In the midst of the chaos, witnesses confirmed that Bondo’s head struck the ground during his fall. The impact of the fall caused a significant injury to his head, and he was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Doctors at the hospital confirmed that Bondo had not been shot, as he had initially believed after hearing the sound of the gunfire.

Instead, his injuries were caused by a blunt object striking his head during the fall. After being treated and receiving stitches for the wound, Bondo was declared stable and was discharged from the hospital on Sunday, April 27. Oloo confirmed that his brother was now resting at home and recovering from the ordeal.

Initially, Bondo had been convinced that he had been shot due to the sound of the gunfire that he heard at the time of the attack. However, after undergoing a thorough medical examination, it became apparent that the injury was not caused by a bullet but rather the blunt force impact from the fall.

Oloo explained that the family had been deeply shocked when they initially thought Bondo had been shot, but they were relieved to learn that the injury was less severe than they had feared. “We were very shocked when I saw that he had been shot,” Oloo said, adding that the confusion surrounding the nature of Bondo’s injury caused a great deal of distress for the family.

The incident left the family deeply concerned, but they are now grateful that Bondo’s condition is stable. Despite the severity of the attack, his friends, who had also been with him during the incident, were unharmed, though some of them lost their mobile phones in the chaos.

While the attackers targeted Bondo, they were also able to steal belongings from others present at the scene, contributing to the sense of confusion and fear that engulfed the group during the ordeal.

The family is thankful that none of Bondo’s friends were seriously injured, and they are relieved that the situation did not escalate further.

As the family grapples with the aftermath of the attack, they are left wondering what could have led to such a violent incident. While the motives behind the attack remain unclear, Oloo shared that the family had considered several possible reasons for the assault.

One possibility that was briefly discussed was the idea that the attack could have been politically motivated. Homa Bay, the region where Bondo serves as MCA, has been known for its political tensions, and Oloo explained that some had speculated that Bondo might have been targeted due to his political ambitions.

However, Oloo quickly dismissed this theory, pointing out that Bondo had no plans to contest for a parliamentary seat in the near future. He clarified that there had been no indications that Bondo’s involvement in local politics would have led to the attack.

Another potential reason for the attack that the family considered was related to the death of their father, a former police base commander in Embakasi.

Their father tragically passed away in a fatal accident while serving in a presidential entourage duty, and Oloo revealed that Bondo has been actively seeking justice for his father’s case.

The unresolved nature of their father’s death may have made Bondo a target for those who wish to silence him, but Oloo stressed that this remains speculative. The family has been pursuing justice for years, and it is possible that the attack could be linked to their ongoing efforts to resolve the case.

Lastly, the family acknowledged that the attack could simply have been a random act of violence.

Oloo expressed that the prevalence of thuggery and crime in certain parts of Nairobi, particularly in areas like Lucky Summer, could mean that Bondo and his friends were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

While this possibility cannot be ruled out, Oloo also emphasized that it is difficult to pinpoint a definitive reason for the assault. He said, “We can’t pinpoint a specific reason, as thuggery is common in some parts of Nairobi, but we thank God our brother is in stable condition.” The family is choosing to focus on Bondo’s recovery rather than dwell on the unknowns of what prompted the attack.

Though the attack has left the family shaken, they are grateful for the support they have received from the community and are focusing on helping Bondo through his recovery process.

The incident has raised questions about safety and security, particularly in urban areas where such attacks are becoming increasingly common. Oloo expressed gratitude for the quick response from medical professionals, as Bondo’s condition could have been far worse if not for the timely intervention.

Now, as Bondo rests and recovers at home, his family is staying positive and hopeful. They are hopeful that more details will emerge about the incident, and they trust that the authorities will continue investigating the attack.

For now, however, they are simply relieved that Bondo is out of danger and that he is surrounded by the care and support of his family. The road to full recovery may take some time, but Bondo’s resilience and the support of those around him offer hope for the future.
