Governor Natembeya Denies Ever Speaking to Rigathi Gachagua
Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has publicly denied ever having any form of communication with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking candidly during an interview with NTV on Thursday, April 17, Governor Natembeya addressed ongoing speculation surrounding his political affiliations and relations with national leaders, stating clearly that he has never spoken to Gachagua—not in the past, and not in the present.
“I want to make it abundantly clear: I have never spoken to Rigathi Gachagua,” Natembeya stated. “Not during his time as Deputy President, and not now. There has been no communication between us at any point.”
He went on to distance himself from rumors suggesting a political alliance or covert collaboration with Gachagua, affirming that such claims were baseless and misleading. While making his position known, the Governor expressed that he harbors no personal animosity toward the former Deputy President.
“As Natembeya, I can say with confidence that Rigathi and I are not enemies. People should stop pushing their enemies onto me. I have no personal reason to be in conflict with him. In fact, if Rigathi were to call me right now, I would not hesitate to answer. That’s just the kind of leader I am—open and principled,” he said.
Governor Natembeya also took the opportunity to clarify his stance on President William Ruto, noting that he has never personally attacked or responded to the President in a hostile manner. According to Natembeya, his public remarks are based on constructive criticism grounded in fact, particularly when it comes to issues affecting devolved functions like healthcare.
“There is no single day I have exchanged words with President Ruto—not even when he has been the subject of criticism from others. I speak only when necessary and only when there is a legitimate issue to address. Take, for instance, the challenges within the Social Health Authority (SHA). These are not political statements; they are factual concerns tied to the devolution of health services, which I understand very well as a Governor,” he explained.
Natembeya further underscored the fact that, in a country with a robust intelligence infrastructure, it would be impossible to secretly communicate with high-level political figures without detection. He stressed that any attempt to fabricate such interactions would quickly be exposed by state mechanisms.
“This country has a sophisticated intelligence system. If I were ever to communicate with Rigathi Gachagua—even using a simple, outdated phone—the government would know. That’s how effective our systems are. So let me reiterate: I have never spoken to Gachagua at any point, and that is the truth,” he affirmed.

Despite the strong denial of any communication or political collaboration, Natembeya made it clear that ideological alignment does not equate to partnership. While he acknowledged that he and Gachagua may share similar views on certain issues, that alone should not be interpreted as proof of political association.
“I want to emphasize that I do not consider Rigathi Gachagua an enemy. In fact, our political ideologies may align in some areas, but that doesn’t mean we are working together. Agreement on policy matters is not the same as political partnership. People need to understand that distinction,” he concluded.
Governor Natembeya’s remarks aim to put an end to growing speculation and reaffirm his position as an independent political leader focused on governance, service delivery, and the welfare of the people of Trans Nzoia.
