Gachagua Heckled in Kajiado as Crowd Chants Pro-Ruto Slogans
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua experienced unexpected disruptions during his recent visit to Kajiado County.
He had joined national and county leaders, accompanied by his spouse, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, to offer condolences to the family of the late Janet Marania Teiyaa, the former Kajiado County Woman Representative.
In his tribute, Gachagua described Teiyaa as “a remarkable leader and a dedicated advocate for our community.” He praised her unwavering commitment to making a positive impact and emphasized that her legacy would continue to inspire generations to come.
“Her loss is deeply felt by all who had the honour of knowing and working with her,” he remarked, extending his heartfelt support to the bereaved family.
However, as he addressed the gathered mourners, Gachagua was interrupted by chants from a section of the crowd voicing support for President William Ruto.
“Ruto! Ruto! Ruto!” the crowd chanted, disregarding attempts to restore order.
Despite the disruption and heavy rains, the former Mathira Member of Parliament remained composed and proceeded with his speech. Security personnel intervened in an effort to manage the situation, but the crowd persisted, affirming their loyalty to the Head of State.
This incident occurs amid a rising trend of heckling targeting public officials, particularly those aligned with President Ruto. The Kenya Kwanza administration has urged citizens to exercise patience and respect as it works to deliver on its promises.
Gachagua, who has been openly critical of the government in which he served for two years, continues to command support from segments of the population. During his remarks, he sought to downplay the influence of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party—drawing a mix of support and dissent from those in attendance.
