Former Vihiga Deputy Governor Caleb Amaswache Now Hawking Firewood to Earn a Living
Caleb Amaswache, the former Deputy Governor of Vihiga County, has found a new source of livelihood following the end of his term in public service.
After exiting government employment, Mr. Amaswache turned to supplying firewood as a means of earning a living and meeting his financial obligations.
He candidly shared that life after office has not been easy. The transition has come with its share of challenges, particularly in sustaining his family.
A Plea to President Ruto
With the weight of family responsibilities on his shoulders, Mr. Amaswache has appealed directly to President William Ruto for an opportunity to serve once more.
“I need a job. I’m asking His Excellency William Ruto to consider those who have previously served in government. We are all Kenyans, and the President should take care of all of us,” he stated emotionally.
Having served under former Vihiga Governor Moses Akaranga, Mr. Amaswache revealed that he now requires at least KSh 200,000 in capital to rebuild his livelihood.
A Life of Memories and Lessons
At home, the only reminders of his time in office are portraits of moments shared with government officials—a stark contrast to his current reality.
Reflecting on his journey, he offered a heartfelt piece of advice to those currently in power.
“Protect and respect those who have served before you. Today, you may be in office; tomorrow, you may not,” he said with visible anguish.
He went on to note how quickly people change once one is out of power.
“When you’re in office, everything seems fine, and people treat you with respect. But when you’re no longer in that position, you begin to see the true nature of things. People stop picking up your calls simply because they no longer need you,” he added.
