Babu Owino: Only I Can Defeat President Ruto Fairly Before 2027 Election Day
Embakasi East Member of Parliament, Babu Owino, has made a bold declaration regarding his political future. In an address to the media on Saturday, April 19, the outspoken legislator expressed confidence in his potential to contest for the presidency in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Owino reiterated his belief that he is more than qualified to serve as President of the Republic of Kenya. According to him, his experience, educational background, and deep connection with ordinary citizens set him apart from other potential contenders. He asserted that no other politician in the country has the capacity to defeat the incumbent, President William Ruto, in the next presidential race.
“As of now, we are overqualified to beat the President of the Republic of Kenya,” Owino stated. “It is only Babu Owino who can beat Ruto squarely a day before the elections. Leave alone what people say about winning early in the morning.”
The MP emphasized that his ambitions are driven not by personal gain but by a genuine desire to serve Kenyans. He noted that while he is qualified to serve as a Member of Parliament and is even capable of holding the position of Nairobi Governor, his true focus remains on effective service delivery.
“We are also overqualified to be the Governor of Nairobi and also to be a Member of Parliament,” he added. “The most important thing is service to the people. It is not just the electoral process that matters; it is what you do after being elected that counts.”
Owino highlighted his personal journey as a major source of inspiration. He pointed to his humble beginnings and the challenges he has endured as the foundation of his connection with everyday Kenyans. These experiences, he said, have shaped his worldview and informed his approach to leadership.
“I have lived the struggles that most Kenyans face. I understand the pain of lacking school fees, the hardship of affording basic needs, and the frustration that comes with unemployment,” he said. “These experiences have prepared me to lead with empathy, integrity, and purpose.”
He explained that any decision he makes regarding his 2027 candidacy will be guided by divine intervention, but he remains committed to serving the people, regardless of the seat he seeks.

“The kind of leadership I want for myself in whichever position I vie for in 2027 shall be guided by the Almighty God,” Owino stated. “My purpose is to work for the people and to ensure their voices are heard and their needs addressed.”
The Embakasi East MP also used the platform to rally the youth, particularly Gen Zs and millennials, urging them to take an active role in shaping the country’s future. He emphasized that political participation extends beyond voting and includes contesting for elective positions.
“I want to encourage this generation—the Gen Zs and millennials—to participate fully in the forthcoming elections,” he said. “They form the majority of the population, and their involvement is crucial.”
Owino noted that young people constitute approximately 65 to 70 percent of Kenya’s population. With such numbers, he believes they hold the power to bring about significant change, including electing a president from among themselves.
“That means they can produce a president, governors, senators, and MCAs from their own generation,” he said. “So do not just participate by voting—participate by contesting for these elective seats.”
In a striking observation, Owino pointed out that anyone who casts a ballot is inherently engaging in politics. Therefore, he argued, political engagement should not be viewed as the domain of a few but as a responsibility of all citizens.
“Everybody in the country, anybody who goes to cast a ballot, is a politician,” he remarked. “That is a political process they are engaging in, which means they are all politicians.”
The MP further emphasized the need for ethical leadership. He drew a clear line between genuine leaders and those he described as “dealers”—individuals who misuse political office for personal enrichment at the expense of the people.
“There are politicians who become leaders and serve the people. But there are also those who turn into dealers—self-serving individuals bent on destroying this nation,” he warned.
In conclusion, Babu Owino made it clear that his ambitions are rooted in a desire to transform Kenya through people-centered leadership. As the country prepares for the 2027 elections, his message was one of empowerment, responsibility, and hope for a better future driven by inclusive and accountable governance.
