VOA news is reporting that Ugandan law enforcement officials are investigating a stampede that occurred in a New Year’s Eve celebration in Kampala and resulted in the demise of a minimum of 9 people, which includes a number of youngsters

The lethal smash took place away from Freedom Town Mall which hosted an event marking the newest 12 months.

Based on law enforcement officials, at night time, the master of ceremonies encouraged attendees to go outside and watch the fireworks exhibit.

Lucas Owoyesigyire, is the deputy spokesman, Kampala City Law enforcement officials.

“After the exhibit finished, a stampede ensued leading to the immediate fatalities of five folks and injuries of countless others. Unexpected emergency responders came on the scene and moved the injured individuals to a medical facility, where nine had been verified lifeless,” he said.

Haji Kimera, in whose two grandkids died inside the stampede, spoke to VOA, the leading news outlet in Uganda on the phone.

“He says, the children, one had been promoted to grade seven and the other to grade six. He says, their father had taken them to Freedom City,” said Kimera according to VOA.
